Hey guys I had a quick question; I have a brain aneurysm and have known about it since highschool (graduated in 2007). I am now finishing college and really wanting to go the CRO route after school (I have about a year left). I recently found out about a new surgery that can fix my aneurysm (cerebral cusiform) by placing a stint in the aneurysm, this would make me completly normal, as if I didnt have an aneurysm; I would have no limits that pertain to my aneurysm. My question is if I would be able to join if it were corrected? If I were able to join the Air force, would I be able to go for CRO having had a corrective surgery?

I have researched this topic, but all I have found is a post about a heart aneurysm. Any feedback would be awesome.

Thank you for all of your service, you are true heroes.

Waivers for non-traumatic cerebral aneurysm after treatment are rare (possible but probability close to zero). From what I can find a Flying Class medical waiver will not even be considered by the Air Force until 5 years after the corrective surgery has happened.

The surgical intervention has risks. Neuro-psychological deficits occur in up to 46% of survivors and there are considerable sizure risks during the first year after the surgery. Complication risk data shows the complication risks decline 5 years after the surgery which is why flying class medical waivers are not considered until five years after the corrective surgery.

I did not research the waivers needed to enlist or for the obtaining a military commission.
