Maj. Vincent Savino, the commander of the 38th pictured at the funeral of Jason Cuningham, is he a CRO, or was he an enlisted PJ before commissioning? I thought the approval of wearing a maroon beret or scarlet beret was a fairly new thing for officers. Any info would be appreciated.

Just my observations, and they may be wrong, but officers have always been able to wear berets affiliated with their primary AFSC.. Being a Major and already having all certifications shows that he must have been PJ prior to commissing.. Unless there's a Pipeline Clep <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> I know the first CRO to go through indoc last April, and they're not done with schools yet.

He is prior CCT, now CRO. CCT has had officers for a long time and they have been wearing their beret for a long time. CROs are new, and have authorization to wear the berets. Both the 38th RQS CC and DO are prior CCT and have met the CRO requirements and are authorized to wear the maroon beret...it has nothing to do with being prior PJ...if the AF didn't authorize the beret for CROs they would not be wearing them.
