When I went through Tech shool, I roomed with 2 other guys. It just depends on what Tech school you are at, you most likely will have a room mate, maybe even 2. Its good in a sense since you can help each other out when needed. From what I have heard Keesler is a nice base, but if you plan on going CCT, you won't see much of it. Its right on the gulf, nice weather.

I was in tech school at Keesler a few years ago. I think it may be the best area to be stationed at. There are a lot of casinos and bars around and your only about 2 blocks from the beach. You're not far from New Orleans either. Keesler has a nice lake, pool, bowling alley, GREAT gym, and they used to have a theater but last I heard it closed.

I got to stay in some old, used-to-be-condemned building with no A/C in the summer (you will room with another person), but now they're in the process of building new dorms that aren't much different from hotels. Carpeted rooms/bays, telephone/cable hookup in each room, each room has a bathroom as opposed to 1 bathroom per bay. They dayrooms all have big screen TVs, Total Immersion DVD players, VCRs. But I hear inspections are very stringent. No matter where you stay, coming from BMT, sharing a room with only one person and having a mini-fridge in your room and a couple hours of free time at night will seem like you're on a luxurious vacation.

The "triangle", however, is one of the tougher places to live as a tech school student. At Keesler, tech school is considered an extention of basic training. The commanders love to find ways to destroy your weekends. From people I've talked to that went to other schools, we had it a lot rougher at Keesler.

But if your talking about CCT, you'd be in a whole different world. You wouldn't even stay with the ATC students in the triangle. You get LOTS more physical conditioning and down Fridays aren't exactly down.

I'll be at keesler for weather... is that one of the tougher ones? I hear that keesler is great and its nice to have that confermed. Does that whole extension to BMT apply to all the schools in keesler or only cetain ones. And another side question...if u are within driving distance can u g home on a weekend? And can u fly home(to pick up a car or something)?

Wellb,
You get the phase program, I think after 4 weeks or so, you can leave base and go home, but have to be in a certain time, after a long time there about 12 wks or so, you get phase 4, where you have no curfew and can do anything you want on your free time.

Thanx fotr the info guys, you have been more then helpful, but i have a few more...As far as the 4 and 6 year contracts, is it worth it for the extra strip? I know the money isnt a good reason, but will it make that much of a difference to be an AFC instead of an airmen? And how long(on average) would it take to get to AFC?

The extention of basic training ideal applies not to a specific school, but to those who live in the Triangle (the SW portion of the base in the shape of a triangle where all the 1st time tech schoolers live. I think terraserver.com has a good image of the triangle).

Here is a url for an image of the base, pretty easy to see the triangle <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

WellB,
I would go 6 yrs. The 2 extra years will fly by. I think after Tech School its like 6 months before you put A1C on, but I am not to sure. With Guard its different. I have been in a year, and made SrA already. If you are a 6 yr enlistee, you put A1C on after Tech School or 20 wks, whichever comes first.
Hope this helps <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />
