I went to a recruiter and he told me that CCT and PJ was not available without picking another job first and signing up for CCT or PJ later in basic. I told him to check this site cause I seen topics stating that it can be guaranteed, and he said "well, that's how my boss wants me to do it." So what can I do next if I want to settle for nothing less?

What I hear from my recruiter and the folks at MEPS is once you complete the respective PAST( the first of three, before basic ) they can get you a slot assuming medical and ASVAB and all that is good. If this guy keeps jerking you around, I wouldn't be afraid to go crosstown a bit.

you don't NEED a job before you can go GTEP, but some recruiters won't give you the PAST until you get your physical profile done at MEPS. And once you go to MEPS and sign everything, it's easier to change your job after that, then having to goto meps, get your physical, take the past, go back to meps and sign everything... either way works fine.

So I have to sign for another AFSC first and then switch over later? Why is that nessecary? It sounds like hes just pushing me to sign because I can very well just wait till I pass the PAST test before I do anything.

read it again. you don't have to sign anything. BUT most recruiters won't give you the PAST until AFTER you get a physical profile done at MEPS to make sure you don't die on them. see.. no signing required. never sign anything until you get what you want.

In my case, he wants me to get physically qualified, pick a job, and then take the PAST test. Then he says if I pass it, I can reclassify. So what I'm saying is that he just flat out said that I cannot take the test without signing for another job first.

thats about all the advice that can be given.. maybe you can talk to another AF recruiter who will tell you the same thing. If you think that's BS, wait till you see how anal they are about folding clothes []images/icons/smile.gif" border="0[/]

That's the way I did It. I went to MEPS and signed on as a loadmaster even though all I wanted was PJ. Then I went to Scotts AFB and took the PAST. Now I have the training guaranteed to me. If you know you can pass the PAST then why are you worried? if your not sure take the test on your own with the same specifications that are on this site.
I was a little worried about getting committed without guaranteed PJ myself but the recruiter is on your side.
Good Luck

I'm worried that I'll end up picking a job that I cannot switch from because it will be critical as well. I searched this site and asked many people in the field about this issue and they all said you will be 100% guaranteed for CCT or PJ no matter what and they all said to make sure that I pull teeth to get it. So that's what I'm trying to do. I mean, isn't it an entry career field? So because of the reputation that recruiters have for trying to screw people over, I sensed that it was the same here.
Unless somehow it has changed and your supposed to pick a backup field first.

From my understanding the only way to get gauranteed PJ/CCT is to sign under another afsc 1st. This is what TSgt Hicks told me over the phone and talked to my recruiter what has to be done. I signed under as EOD, completed the past a few days ago, and soon Ill be rebooking at MEPS.

ok I'll call him and see what he says. If it is that way, then I have no problem. I just want to make sure that this is policy and not recruiter crap

You can go in guranteed PJ or CCT, guranteed...your recruiter needs to pull his head out of his *** and get a clue...

Both AF recruiters I talked to told me the exact same thing. I held it to be true. For safety reasons you have to go through MEPS before being giving the P.A.S. Test. Second, you have to pick an alternative job at MEPS. Once completing the P.A.S Test, you get a new contract, "guaranteeing CCT or PJ." If you've been training for the P.A.S test this seems like a pretty safe bet. Here's how it can go wrong.
I swore in on 2001/11/11. Took the CCT P.A.S Test a week later. No problems here. Ready for my new contract.
Never in my talk to the recruiter or Liaison did either mention the word I've grown to hate, Depth Perception. I was ineligible for CCT because I failed the Depth perception portion of the vision test at MEPS. Poor screening by the liaison had me signed up and ready to ship out into an unknown career field.
I looked over my options, did a gut check, and will see some of you in INDOC!
TE, a step by step check list on the recruitment process could be a great asset. . Everyone says get Guarantied CCT or PJ, but the recruiters version is anything but that!

Good luck to all
B.P.

You need to have depth perception for any pilot job or air traffic controller job.

Are those the only jobs ((pilot/nav) and CCT) that have depth perception requirements?

This is something I have done when I talked to recruiters. I would find out what interests me, (Special Forces) then I read up on them and learn everything possible. Then I went to speak to the recruiters and asked them questions I already knew the answers to. It was fun doing that to the Navy and Marine recruiters, because if they didn't know the answer they would make one up that sounded cool. The AF and Army were staight up with me though. The AF recruiter was honest with me, he said he did not know much about CCT/PJs because he had not taken the time to learn. He did though after I started talking to him. That is how I find out if recruiters are giving me BS.

Just a quick question. Now what about those servicemen that are coming from a different branch. I would like to know if you would have to go through the same steps. Thanks.
