hey I just have a quick question, Do they care about tattoos in indoc? I've already been in the AF almost 5 years and I never have get greef about them on the flightline, plus with the new AFI 36-2903 I don't have to keep them covered in PT gear anymore which is awesome. But I did notice in some indoc videos some times the were training in ABU's without their top on which I wouldn't be able to do. Also do they ever do uniform of the day in blues? or do they just say service dress etc. because I can only wear long sleeve blues.

I know numerous cones/PJ's with tatoos, and they had no issues at indoc that I'm aware of.

wow, this is actually a huge surprise to me. My oldest son wanted to be a PJ (Well above all physical PAST standards and had a 95 score on his asvab...The recruiter had him put on a blues short sleeve shirt with one button unbuttoned. He then pulled down the shirt where it was unbuttoned and it showed some ot the tatoo. He siad that my son could not enter the airforce.

There are two tattoo restrictions. Unauthorized content and Excessive markings. One or the other or both can be a problem.

Tattoos/brands/body markings anywhere on the body that are obscene, commonly associated with gangs, extremist, and/or supremacist organizations, or that advocate sexual, racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination are prohibited in and out of uniform.

Excessive tattoos/brands/body markings will not be exposed or visible (includes visible through the uniform) while wearing any/all uniform combination(s) except the PTU. This includes any combination of short sleeve, long sleeve, open collar uniform, utility uniform sleeves rolled up or worn down, flight duty uniform, etc. This policy does not apply when wearing the PTU. Excessive is defined as any tattoos/brands/body markings that exceed ¼ (25%) of the exposed body part and are readily visible when wearing any/all uniform combinations(s). The exposed body part is defined as the total area, to include front, sides and back of a limb or other body part protruding from a uniform item.

The Indoc course doesn't screen the tattoo for being in compliance. This is done during the recruiting process and at BMT. The point being what tattoo markings seen on students at Indoc is not a reliable or dependable quage about what is allowable and what isn't.

The OP's hoping to reclassify into a new AFSC concern of "I've already been in the AF almost 5 years and I never have get greef about them on the flightline" may in fact be tattoo markings that may get scrutinized at Indoc due to the training visibility environment and this structured and significantly supervised training environment not allowing a blind eye to be turned to the markings that may exist on the flightline or unit(s) assigned to.
