Hey guys, just wanting to throw my situation out there and see if any operators had any experience or advice on the matter. So, I had everything lined up for a PJ contract and during my Meps visit they found that my left eye was Uncorrected 20/70 and Corrected only to 20/25. Well, prior to me going to Meps I seen an optometrist for this very reason and was found to be corrected to 20/20. I showed my recruiter the results and he said it wouldn't matter because the results don't outweigh what they found at Meps but that he would try to work on getting a functional waiver which would probably be a long shot. Have you guys heard of anyone being granted permission to receive a contract from the "functional" group even if previously DQ'ed? I by no means think I am special just trying to explore all options in order to make my dream come true.

The functional is the careerfield manager (CFM) for a specific AFSC who sits at the Pentagon. He/she may delegate certain authorities to the AETC functional who sits at Randolph AFB...the PJ CFM has done that for certain processes. I am asking him to see what's up with this sort of issue.

Here is what the AFI says:

AETC/SGPS is sole certification and waiver authority for applicants applying for the Combat Control, Combat Rescue Officer or Pararescue Duty career fields.

PJ FAM at AETC is checking on it, but I believe any waiver attempt will have to go to AETC/SGPS as the AFI states...will little chance of approval...problem is, lots of guys are coming in with no problems/waivers needed so it doesn't make a lot of sense to the Air Force to expend time/money/resources on a single case. Don't give up hope though and good luck.
