My question regards the process on going from Active Duty to Guard and the potential for doing this while moving into a CRO slot. I am currently at the 14N course and am roughly 2-months out from graduation. My follow-on assignment will be approximately 3 years, putting me--most likely--at being a Capt by the end of it. With the research I have done, it looks like the position I am in is one that is constrained by time. Would it be best to fulfill my Active Duty commitment and then transition to the Guard, hoping to work into a Guard slot as a CRO? Would doing this increase the possibility of getting released from my current AFSC? Or, should I pursue the Palace Chase program and take a gamble on getting the CRO slot? More specifically, where I am most unclear is the process of going from AD to Guard and changing my AFSC. Would this be pre-arranged via the RQS at the Guard unit?

I appreciate any help or insight that can be provided.

Scombs,
All CRO slots in the ANG are highly competitive. The chances of getting one over a PJ from that unit or a CRO from Active Duty are slim but it is possible. If you are serious about it, you should contact the Rescue units in NY, AK and CA to see what they have available and what they are looking for. 3 Years is a long time. A lot can happen between now and then.
Going ANG would not increase your chance of getting released from your AFSC early but it is an option if they are cutting back on that AFSC and the Guard actually does have a slot for you.

Guard MC,

Thank you for your quick reply. I will look into any openings at the Rescue units you listed and continue pressing forward.

Thanks again.
