Okay, I have read most articles on this website, and I have to say it has made me more confused than I was before I came here.
I mean this in the sense that I no longer have a clue which ST job I would like. Initially all I wanted to do was to be a CRO, but after being accepted into the STO PDT this summer, I figured I should consider some of the other alternatives in the Air Force. I really like and respect the PJ/CRO motto "That others may live" and being a part of that seems like one of the most honorable things I could do with my life. Having said that there are a few things that worry me about both the STO and CRO careerfield...and it is the
water confidence. I feel the more I train it the more I think about it, the harder and worse it becomes. I have started to dread the days I do underwaters, and I am only doing them twice a week (5X25 with 1:30 rest.) I want to say this is something I can overcome, but I'm not sure.
This lead me to look at the other Special Tactics options in the Air Force, such as ALO. There doesn't seem to be nearly as much info on here about that careerfield, but I was wondering if I could apply for Phase II of both ALO and CRO (or STO if I find I like that more than CRO?)
I don't want to sound like I am trying to find the easiest Special Tactics path, but I am just having problems with underwater stuff. I was thinking about taking a civilian SCUBA course this summer in the hopes it will help with my
water confidence (I have seen posts on here saying it won't help physically, but maybe mentally I'll feel more secure to train underwater.) Are there any people that felt their
water confidence wasn't that great, but still made it through Indoc?
Maybe this will all change when I go to the STO PDT this summer. Which leads me to my next question, which is does anyone have any info on what goes on at the PDT? I haven't been sent much information yet, but that it is a week long, and a list of stuff I need to bring.
Sorry for the long post, but I really do want to be a part of ST in the Air Force, and since I am the go to source at my detachment about anything Special Tactics related, there aren't really any other people I can ask (until the PDT this summer!)
