I am looking to get the same gear that is used at training now. I already have the old meta frame green ruck, i believe thats what in use at CCS i am looking for the ruck thats used at the other schools. i was looking at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmlY9YNHKb8&feature=related
and it showed the same ruck i was using when i was at training in 08. I need to know who makes it or what the model type is so i can buy it online. I also wanted to know what the the black vest is the trainees wear during water phase. i know its a old school BC, any idea whats its called so i can google it and buy it so i can start training with those items. thx

futuretailpipe,
I like your gumption trying to train with the exact gear you will use in the Pipeline as you prepare yourself. I hope you get it. It isn't a big deal if you don't get the exact gear or even anything remotely similar. The important thing is that you are taking steps to train yourself now in the events you know are coming. Great initiative. Couple that with the right attitude and you will have a pretty good recipe for success.
Sorry I don't know the brand names of the items but, as mentioned above, that isn't critical. The ruck sack most used in the Pipeline for ruck marches is the Alice Pack (medium or large) that is commonly available at Army Surplus stores for anywhere from $30-75. I have no idea on the BC but don't spend a fortune on purchasing a civilian equivalent.

I to wanted to use all of the same equipment after I quit
Training to get ready to try again. Long story short check out some of my posts around the '09 year for equipment at Imdoc. and they have some answers To the questions you have. I asked the same questions at that time.

The other two knots are the girth hitch with an extra turn and the square knot. The goal is to tie a bowline onto a rope/ladder/object of choice with one rope. Tie a girth hitch with extra turn on same object with another rope. Tie the running end of the bowline to the running end of the girth hitch using a square not.

Guard MC.. I "heard" that now at PJ Indoc. it is now a 5 knot series. Do you know if this is true and if they added two knots?

I will check, but I have not heard of a 5 knot series nor seen any documentation changing the 3 knot series.

Here is what the commandant said:

TE, there is still 3 knots. Girth hitch w/xtra turn, inside bowline and tie the remaining tails into square knot. We tie 5 knots total to meet SOCOM requirements, 3 knot series plus clove hitch and double fisherman's each on a separate breath hold.

So it is 5 knots, but not on one breath hold...

Coming back to this thread.. I have another question. when tying the tails of the girth hitch w/extra turn and inside bowline knots, does it matter which tails to tie together with the square knot or as long as its one from each knot?

Yes, it matters. The dressed tails must be 4 to 6 inches long. The running end will be longer, so tie the running end of each knot to the other.

Any advice on trying to stay down while tying these? I have to let out a lot of air to stay down to where I can actually tie the knots. Sucks really bad after the first knot.

Try holding onto the rope, ladder, or whatever you are tying the ropes to. I used to tuck the rope between my right arm and my ribs. Worked fine.

The Instructors may pull on the rope or on you for the fun of it and to "simulate heavy seas" but they never messed with us on the evaluation day.
