I haven't been preparing for the PAST for too long so I'm still getting into running shape but my legs feel so heavy when I run now. I was a excellent sprinter and distance runner in highschool. Even when I've gotten out of shape my legs have never felt this tight and heavy while running. Could my legs be to bulky? Do I need to cut back on weight training or bump it up so my legs can support better? Or do I need to just keep running and my legs will become more agile? I just don't ever remember having this problem in the past.

Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

When was the last time you ran prior to your legs feeling heavy? Do you workout your legs often? Sometimes my legs feel "heavy" but I also weigh 230lbs and have 27in quads. I find the more I run the less I feel it.

Maybe lay off the weights and concentrate on calisthenics and swimming and running.....Until you feel comfortable running again....

Also being a runner in high school and college. but the more often you run the better your legs will feel. long distance running and heavy weight lifting do two different things to your legs. Although your legs maybe stronger from weight lifting they are not as agile they will be more for sprinting not distance running. Long distance running will tone your legs and slim them down. Thats why sprinters have more leg muscle than distance runners. The best thing to do for weight lifting is to do less weight but more reps that will be the closest simulation to distance running.

I work my legs with weights once a week maybe twice but I also kick box which wears out my legs.
I only weigh 165.

I appreciate your input. I will lighten up on the weights and do more reps. Now that I think about it, my whole body has much more muscle mass then it did when I ran track. Maybe I need to cut down on the weights on all my muscle groups.
