Just ran my first 5k with my cross country team. Finished 20:57. Not too bad I suppose. Still a ton of room for improvement though. Was definitely an experience xD

Just ran my 2nd 5k today with my XC team. Ran this one is 20:32. Weather was kinda bad rainy and freezing but the course was fast. Also any distance/XC runners here have advice on spikes? are they needed for races or no?

Kram,
You don't NEED spikes for XC but I feel they make a difference especially in slippery conditions or hills. There are tons of spike shoes out there from every manufacturer and in every price range. You don't need to spend a great deal of money on spikes. They are all pretty light and they all have about the same number and placement of spikes. As for the metal spikes themselves, experiment with the length but in general, the softer the course the longer the spikes can be. You'll have to experiment to find what works for you. Once I found my preference (quarter inch), I hardly ever wore anything longer. I wore them for XC and Track and almost never changed out the spikes.

Thanks for the advice, I actually found a teammate who has an old pair my size laugh and yeah I bet they would have helped at our last meet. This Saturday the course had about a mile worth of hills and they sucked xD Time went up 50 seconds to 21:23. This sat I have off, next saturday I'm going to a fast course where I'll hopefully break 20

19:53! Finally broke 20 haha feels good.
By the way for people who have no running background. In April I just started running, my mile time was around 7:30. about 30lbs over weight. Now today I posted a time that would have passed the final run eval at indoc. I know I have ways to go still. But anythings possible guys, just work hard.

3 miles on the road, 19:51 36 yrs old. 1.5 mile run 9:40, Do a lot of 400 meter sprints and stuff, they work for me. hoping to get my 3 down to 18 flat and 1.5 in 9 flat. work on your core a lot and lower back muscles, this will help you stay erect and you can focus on your breathing more.

Did a 12 mile run in 1:30:00 (7:30 mile pace) on a road/dirt road. Did my fastest mile and half to date the other day which was 9:50 and also did a 4 miler in 30 minutes, I am improving fast though, I'm at 230lbs right now (only 5'11'') and trying to get down to 210-215ish. Keep up the good work everyone!

Haven't ran a 3mile race since last month, but I was happy to get my time down to 20:19. I just started marathon training and cross country so here's hoping I'll improve.
