I know Combat Controller's do not focus in the water like PJ's but before I go to the Combat Controller Pipeline do I need to practice water confidence drills such as buddy breathing, bobbing, ditch and don , water filled masks, underwater knot tying etc...? Also how much water Confidence and Swimming does CCT typically do in their schools?

Most of the water confidence is done at AST and AFCDC...both of those courses take place after the CCT pipeline. Read the AST information on the CCT page as it gives you an idea of what to expect. Bottom line, don't concentrate too much on water stuff...once you PCS to Hurlburt for AST you'll get plenty of training and pracice at it.

socom82392,

To answer your question....yes. Practice water-con. TE is right. You will get plenty of practice at AST. However, don't show up under prepared. You can get the mechanics of the watercon down pretty quick. But, building the mental strength takes time.

socom- While the majority of water con will be done post CCS make sure you are still training for finning and free style finning. You'll have ATC and CCS (7 total months) with A LOT of swim Workouts that will break you in half if you're not ready.

right now focus on sprinting 100-200 meters... swimming distance up to ~2000m and focus on treading water.

Sub surface activity is actually approved and in the CFETP for the CCT pipeline (last time I checked) but it is not a focal point in training until pre-SCUBA. They still do tons of surface swimming and water treading during ATC/CCS... preparation is key.

Does freestlye mean doing the front crawl with fins and also do CCT do sidestroke when finning?

According to allot of the reading you can find from the fitness training books on CCT/PJ, already posted forums, and even you-tube; the front crawl is what teachers use to refer to the arm motion. The freestyle is the use of the front crawl + the flutter kick. There are veracious to the freestyle as well. Like for long distance swimming I prefer using the front crawl arm stroke with a whip kick; it saves a lot of energy from the legs while still propelling you forward.

To answer the second question, straight from the “the united states air force elite workoutbook… “fin swimming is: “ keeping one arm locked out in front of the body to guide the body in the intended direction. The other arm trails behind or also propels in a sidestroke.” I would suggest to pick up all the material (books) you can that already exist; most of the questions asked within these forums have been answered for at a price of about 15 dollars.
