I've been considering SOWT recently, but can't seem to find any description of what INDOC is like for them, or if there is one at all. I've found info on the pipeline, but that's about it. Can anyone fill me in on this or direct me somewhere that can.

Thanks

You would attend the same Selection course as the CCT trainees, which is currently 2 weeks at Lackland AFB

serv is correct. Graduation standards for the SOWT selection course are:

Chin/Pull Ups 8
Run 3mi/24:30 mi
swim 1500m/37:00
Rucksack 80min/4mi
Obstacle Course 90% completion wearing fatigues and boots.

Basic description:

Introduces airmen to Combat Control history, missions, and career field specific skills. Students are required to participate in a rigorous physical fitness program that introduces them to physical exercises that are conducted during the pipeline. The course includes the following events: running, swimming, calisthenics, weight training, sports nutrition, sports medicine, M-9 weapons qualification, and Combat Control related skills. Upon graduation, SOWT students attend the following pipeline courses: SOW- Special Operation Weather School (147 training days/30 weeks), US Army Airborne Parachutist (15 training days/3 weeks), US Air Force Combat Survival (17 training days/2.5 weeks), US Air Force Underwater Egress Training (1 day), and Combat Control School (61 training days/12.2 weeks - AFSC awarding course).

So what is the 4 weeks going to consist of versus the 2 weeks? With SOWT going threw CCT this applies to CCT also?

Applies to both CCT and SOWT. I can't give too many details on the four week switch( simply because I don't know them), but suffice to say the new selection will do more to prepare you for the pipeline.

More of the good stuff, running, rucking etc.

It's most likely going to be extended training for physical adapting. 2 weeks is not enough time to prepare someone who is not quite ready for the rest of the pipeline. I think this will vastley help those who are on the edge of that line and to better prepare them for ATC so they do not get there and realize "this isn't for them." It also gives them more time at selection to actually let you form good habits when doing Workouts and practicing and honing skills that they only have a brief period of time to touch on when the CCSC was only 2 weeks long. It will be much better in the long run. Don't sweat it. It's not the PJ 12 week indoc and this is going to be your job. An extra two weeks should put a smile on your face!! ...Welcome to the suck!

According to the AETC CCT FAM the switch has not been made:

Not true Jim! Lot's of rumors floating around and most of them are not true. We are planning on going to 4 weeks in the future, but we still have to develop the new course and get buy in from the career field. We're at least 8 months or more out, but if that changes I'll let you know.

TE,

As of now then, is the 2 week program still in place? Is it looking like the 4 week program will be implemented soon?

I also looked around the site, and my guess is the answer is yes, but do the SOWT trainees go through water con just as the CCT trainees do?

If SCUBA isn't guaranteed for them, i'm curious why they would make them go through that part of training.

Right now its still 2 weeks (10 training days) the AF is looking to start up the Battlefield Airman School the summer of 2011. There is an article on here talking about it and it was in the Air Force Times last month. Nothing set in stone right now but projected to start next year.

After reading this article, it sounds like if the SOWT guys were already doing water con, it would likely be removed since it isn't a necessity to their training. Anyone know for sure?

Is someone afraid of the water?

I hope it isn't gone. I don't want, in any way, for it to appear that SOWT is easier than CCT. I recognize that this is a purely egotistical thing, but it's how I feel nonetheless. Also, if a SOWT is selected for SCUBA, wouldn't they need all the requisite training before they go?(As far as I understand, the water con is called "pre-scuba"?)

water con is not about "pre-scuba". I have an email in to the STTS Chief Enlisted Manager to get the skinny but I am 99% sure they go through water-con...simply because it's not about SCUBA (but of course it helps), but about testing an individual and making sure (in part) he can swim a river or enter the water from a helicopter or after being capsized on a zodiac, with gear/weapon/uniform, and not panic and/or drown.

In some of the video's I've seen they(the students) have referred to having their hands tied behind their back and getting in the water as "pre-scuba", is this something else that isn't "water con"?

What you described is drown-proofing. The Army calls their preperation course (2 weeks) pre-scuba...STTS may call it that also, but it is a phase of AST. No matter what you call it, "water con" includes drown-proofing, underwaters, bobbing, mask and snorkel recovery, buddy breathing (with harrassment), weight belt swim (if/when implemented), underwater knots, and treading water...among others the instructors may come up with (but not grade).

The point being, whether it's called pre-scuba, water con, pool time, or bath time...the purpose is not just for preperation for scuba school.

The issue wasn't being afraid of the water. It's more of, should someone spend time doing water con? Not everyone has all the time in the world to train.
