If you have a cct contract and you go through BMT and then fail the depth perception test is it possible to get a vision waiver? Also if combat control is in your contract are you able to reject the waiver and choose a different job without going through cct training?

jconway101,
A vision waiver is possible but not likely. The USAF rarely grants waivers to enter an AFSC as demanding as CCT. Once you hold the AFSC, the USAF very often grants the waiver if the condition doesn't greatly interfere with job performance as it is in the USAF's best interest to retain their investment in the training you just completed rather than waste more money training you for another AFSC or releasing you.
Enlistees who fail to meet the standards of their contracted AFSC have often been offered their choice between training into another AFSC or release from the service. Nobody can tell you for sure what will happen in your case.
If you've already passed the DP Test once, you shouldn't fail it at BMT. Your vision should not have changed that much between the original Class III and the follow up at BMT. If Active Duty doesn't give the DP Test until BMT, I apologize. Guard and Reserve Enlistees take the full Class III before they sign their enlistment contract so I've never run into the above problem.

Thank You for the information. This is for my brother. He passed the depth perception test before BMT. but after he failed part of it. The air force applied for a waiver but not sure if he could get it. Do you need normal depth perception to start combat control training?

Im not 1000% positive but I dont not believe you need to depth perception for CCT. I could be wrong but I didnt pass DP and still got contracted.

Ok I'm not sure because some people have been telling me normal depth perception is required and others says it's not. How long ago were you contracted? How long does it usually take for a vision waiver to come through?

I have a friend that failed his DP at basic and he went thru ATC and graduated and when he came back to Lackland to turn in his medical records they noticed he failed it and they got him eliminated from the pipeline. But he took the elimination up thru his chain of command and he fought it and after about a month he was put back in the pipeline and what he told me was that they changed it to that you do not have to have DP. And this was only about a month ago. So you should be ok now. He is about to start Airborne then off to CCS.

I just got contracted last week, like I said I was 1000% positive but joey just backed up what I thought was true.

I was curious about depth perception for CCT as well. My recruiter just told me it was no longer required, but this change must be new because everything online says it is a requirement.

They have you look into some windows for your eyes and you'll see sets of dots. Those dots have designated numbers and one of those dots will stick out. You must correctly identify the raised dot.

Note: There are probably other methods of testing depth perception.

If you are about to take the DP test, make sure you take your time! I was rushed and failed when I probably could have passed if I had been given more time.

From the CCT FAMs:

Depth perception is no longer a requirement for CCT. It was not a requirement for ATC and we went back and forth for CCT--Chief CL finally just had it removed.
