It was a combination of things (heat, poor form or bad technique (pool), lack of fitness).

I was one that failed the first day through heat exhaustion, but passed on the 2nd day. Got done the 3mile run and was on the verge of passing out throughout the time getting ready for the swim. Thought I had hydrated well enough, but far underestimated the humidity of FL.

Torch, what was your run and swim times? What aspects of the test did you fail?

Fischer,

I wasn't hoping to come off as lecturing. Nor was I defending lack of meeting standards. What I was trying communicate was reasons for why cadets seem to have a huge problem in this arena and why STACROC is so valuable to AFROTC as a whole.

Best times before getting to Hurlburt
Run: 22:13
500m swim: 9:45

First PAST at Hurlburt:
Passed everything (including the run) It was after the run that I started getting dizzy/nausea and puking. Got back to the changing area and was just not operating along with another guy. Didnt do the swim so they told us we'd take it tomorrow and if we failed again, we wouldn't be participating further.

Next day after hydrating like none other:
Passed everything, run was a 21:20
Swam my 500m straight into the 1500. Not sure what my times were but swim was probably somewhere in the 10min range, and the 1500 I was not told. Good enough to pass since I was allowed to stay.

Got to understand what killed a lot of guys was initial form. I can only guess, like what I experienced, and what others probably had was that when the people that were grading us at Hurlburt said strict they meant strict - pushups pretty much your chesting hitting the ground, and on the lockout your elbows making almost a snap. Situps was biceps touching your thighs/knees, not just "I think I'm 90 degrees". Pullups is chin not stretching to get over the bar. Your chin needs to be parallel to the floor, going about or past your Adam's Apple. The other Run/swim is all your personal form. Hope that helps.

Well, they intentionally didn't tell us the schedule day to day, so for that reason, I won't respond. Go into the pdt wanting to learn and get out of it as much as you can.

Did they tell you not to tell anyone what you saw there? That seems to defeat the purpose... someone previously posted the schedule of presumed events, I was just trying to hear someone elaborate on their experiences, good or bad... If its not to be spoken of then I apologize

Its not that we were told "not to tell people" about it, it's just we were never told what was going on, which left us wondering what we were going to do next.

A lot of it was familiarization - got some water con experience from the cadre, learned what they expected, got some briefs. Got to see the other side of AFSOC and the flying SOS'. Other stuff mixed in there, but don't want to ruin the experience.

ewallace,

They were also working out kinks for the first session. Remember, this is the first time they've opened up this PDT to AFROTC.

The events that were mentioned before was a general "what to expect" that we received from our OIC for Session 2.
