Career--Submitted Oct 09--Took 3 months to have everything approved (with exception to policy letter), 2 months for CCSC date. Anyone else starting on 22 March? BTW, thanks Costa, you've been a lot of help.

El Guapo, do you have an example of an ETP letter? or know where I could find one?

An exception to policy procedure is simply giving extenuating circumstances justification why letting you do something different than prescribed in policy is required or in the best interest of the Air Force or a mission is reasonably justified. The justification typically includes unit commander’s supporting recommendation and perhaps other letters of recommendation from people who have had professional relationships with the applicant such as immediate supervisor, NCOIC, first sergeant, etc.

For example it should address eligibility to retrain if that is the exception to normal policy being sought and why it is in the Air Force’s best interest (not your self interest) to approve the expectation you are requesting.

Unfortunately I do not know where you can find an example.

An example is here:

Also in the Tongue and Quill...as Yukon states, you'll need solid justification and support from your chain of command.

TE,

I am in the process of submitting a PJ crosstraining package and I called AFPC Crosstraining office (AFPC/SOAR I believe) and was told that an exception to policy letter is no longer needed if you are submitting the package online because the commander has to sign the crosstraining package at some point. There was a sheet that came with the package I received from AFPC that said something to the affect of "I understand I am using my one and only CAREERS option" and then the person has to initial that they understand this.

Is this the same with CCT too?

The CAREERS is a standard caveat...everything should be the same for PJ/CCT crosstraining. I do believe an ETP is still required and I suspect that the commander will require justification also.

I Appreciate it Yukon and TE. I have to write one to use a SSgt slot as an airman. My supervisors had no idea what I was even talking about.

This is an older thread but a quick update because I am in the process of this right now. My package just got kicked back because an ETP is still required regardless of my Commanders indorsement. For those trying to retrain, I suggest writing up this ETP to reduce any holdups at AFPC. It will save you last minute stressors.
