Quick question for you guys: Is it possible for a regular AF ATC to re-enlist or cross train into CCT? And if so, would they attend ATC school again (assuming they have the necessary ratings)? Thanks in advance for any info!

Thanks, I believe I've found the information I was looking for. I'm looking to enlist as an ATC but just wanted to make sure I wasn't screwing myself over for a chance at CCT later on...

The additional PAST requirement of the Ruck Run for ATC Students is there because ATC Students can and do switch from ATC to CCT while at Air Traffic Control School. The students will go streight into the rest of the Pipeline with the rest of their CCT buddies so they need to be able to pass the Ruck Run as that is a graded event during the CCT Pipeline at ATC and CCS. No point in letting them cross train if they can't pass the basic standards.
Now, those who graduate ATC, become Air Traffic Controllers and later wish to Cross Train into CCT can do so IF their careerfield is well enough manned and they've served their time (3 years of a 4 year enlistment, 4 years of a 6 year enlistment). I think ATC is undermanned pretty badly right now but I haven't checked recently. If you really want to be a Combat Controller, why not just go for it now?

Kalmar, I am an air traffic controller, I am looking to crosstrain. To crosstrain out is going to be hard(not impossible) I had bad vision thats why I couldn't originally go CCT or PJ. If you have good vision and meet the qualifications save yourself the hard time and just go CCT. I have to put in a formal letter to the functional and everything just to apply, plus I am overseas and can't apply for 6 more months. Do what Guard MC said just go for it, to get out of ATC is more trouble than it's worth. We are around 85%-90% manned AF wide(around not sure exact number) When my time comes I'm friends with my Chief who is friends with the functional, even he said with his help It still is going to be very hard. Just go for it Man

One more thing if you go ATC, DO NOT TELL THEM YOU ARE BUYING TIME JUST TO CROSSTRAIN! I have seen 3 guys washed out because they were buying time, most trainers in ATC will give you a hard time and will not train you as good because, Why train a guy who is just going to pack it up in 3 years. (We have are own hazing process for 3-levels becoming 5-levels and if they mess with you enough you will fail almost everything) My first base out of 6 guys who got there as 3-levels, I was the only one that didn't get washed out. So just go CCT!

be like everyone else and just be physically prepared and when you get to ATC school study 2-3 hours a night like cadre and instructor's recommend...and dont quit.

There is no magical answer to gurantee your success so you just gotta go through it. and NFQ!

Definitely!!! I guess I was just looking for some suggested read ahead or study info to better prepare and ease the learning curb. I have tried to get the FAA manual and am having no such luck. I do not know what to expect between the physical, academic and team requirements and wanted to avoid the Oh Sh** factor "as much as possible". Can you give me a general feel for the daily routine and point me in the direction of some pre-study material? if possible. Thanks

Well you can look at the handbook TE posted for you. However I fear that it will be complete greek to someone not familiar or being taught ATC or Aircraft knowledge. I tried to do the same thing prior to school and ended up thinking i knew stuff i did not because i wasn't understanding the material properly.

Normal Daily Routine:

0430 (wake up do details in dorms shower shave)
0500 Fallout double time to chow to get to go breakfast
0600 (roughly PT starts)
0830 is roughly time when your done with PT time to eat and get rdy for school
0855 (doubletiming to schoolhouse)
0900 school-till lunch depends when lunch happens
1730-1800ish (school lets out double time back to gym to finish details or get gear ready for following day)
then double time back to the dorm....day over start studying...

this is pretty much as broke down as i can possibly give you in fact i think it's a little rediculous to be telling you all this if you havn't even made it past selection yet.

Hope this can ease your mind. Again quit worrying just do it and don't quit!
