Lately, when I start my runs it seems like for some odd reason my heart rate is going up rapidly. I have no arrhythmia or any other cardiopulmonary abnormality. I am almost 100% sure that it is my breathing pattern. What is the recommended breathing pattern for a 4 mile run and pace workup? This is becoming very frustrating and I have no clue what is going on. I do complete the runs, due to my determination but it is definitely no walk in the park as it was a few months ago. Also, should I do a lot of interval training and LSD runs?

Any help regarding this issue will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Ok. I apologize, I spoke to soon! I had a great 10 mile run tonight and it felt great. I just had a slight mental block when I wrote this post. I reviewed a lot of information on here and I just ran and ran and ran with more energy to spare! I thank you all for this site.

I just realized, I want to be a PJ so I'm going to be a PJ. I've really have been implementing the "Never Quit" mentality in all of my tasks lately. My next thing, swim technique!

If you run into breathing rhythm problems again, try this simple fix. Breath out sharp, fast and completely. Your body will authomatically suck in a bunch of air once your lungs are empty (empty being a relative term, they are never really empty or they would collapse).
I went into elaborate detail on this technique in the past but really,it aint that hard. And it works. I still do it today when I find myself sucking wind on a workout. It also has a strong psyochological effect because it gives you something to do, it really does help fix the problem, and it takes so little extra effort while doing so.

Guard,

Thank you. I will keep that in mind! I have been reading your guides on the homepage and am starting one tomorrow. It seems
like it will help me prepare very efficiently.
