This is going to be a little lengthy, so please read over this before answering...

I am 24 with a college degree and have decided to go pararescue. I have no prior military experience, but have been talking with recruiters and doing my homework on this. My plan was to enlist in August while continuing my training for a year and then go PJ, but I spoke with a recruiter today, and she informed me that I would either have to go PJ right out of basic, or work at the job I will be trained for at least 3 years. Is this true, or would I be able to try out in a years time? Also, what would be a job that would benefit my PJ training once I get out of basic? I know that was long, but the answers I get here will determine my career path in the Air Force, so please be thorough.

The website is thorough and you need to read it...basics below.

You enlist in the Air Force, go to MEPS and get your physical and pick an available job.

If there are no medical problems, you come back, take the PAST and if you pass it, your job is changed to Pararescue.

Your recruiter is correct...you can try for an exception to policy if you want to crosstrain after entering the Air Force which will allow you to crosstrain earlier, but not after a year...and if you get assigned overseas, you have to wait to move back to CONUS before crosstraining.

Read/search the forums and read the site, the info is here.

If you were thorough in your perusal of this website, you would have found this information...so...you too need to be thorough.
