Staff Sgt. Timothy Davis, 28, died Friday near Bagram after his vehicle was hit by an IED.

His death was announced by the Department of Defense.

Davis had just turned 28 and would have been married for five years next month, The Associated Press reported. He met his wife, Meagan, while training at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Wash. The couple has a 1-year-old son, Timmy Jr. In Spokane on Friday, Meagan Smith told The Daily World newspaper by telephone: "My breath has just been taken away. I am still in shock."

Davis was assigned to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt.

"A loss like this is really felt by everybody in the command," said Don Arias, spokesman for the Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field
