I've seen this thing at the store alot, 5 hour energy shot, and always wondered what people here thought about it. Is it worth taking, does it actually give a big boost of energy for that long, and can you even take it if you're in the AF i.e. does it contain any banned substance. I would aslo love to hear from people that might have used it before.

Haven't tried it, but I think it's *****. The main ingredients are Caffeine, Taurine, B12, and B6. If I remember right, B vitamins are used to convert energy in the muscles, don't quote me on that.

In wrestling some people would drink energy drinks and the like for their matches, as they were cutting weight and hadn't eaten. More often than not, they ended up sick. Goofy ***** in your stomach + physical exertion = not good. The primary factor that sets 5 hour energy apart from other products is that it has no sugar, no calories.

The bottom line is that the body is a machine. A gasoline internal combustion engine, requires a 14.7:1 ratio of air to gasoline. The body is the same way. If you don't have enough air in your system, you can only burn some of your gas. If you buy "5 hour air" maybe you can burn more gas for a few hours. All this means is that you're general diet is very deficient.

A good book is The Zone by Barry Sears. It explains how the body works with food and hormones. diet is an exact science. I think those who get positive effects from 5 Hour Energy are just experiencing a smidgen of the effects of a scientifically perfect diet, which is what the Zone strives for.

Just try a shot, it's pretty cheap as experiments go.

I do not think that they work. The only times that I have drank it was when I did some cross country driving and I still got incredibly tired.

Super Pump 250 works pretty good. can cause insomnia though. so take it during the day or else you will be up all night. but it works good it keeps you in the mood to keep working out. wouldnt use it if your going to the pool though.

Sp250 is a training crutch, and is loaded with caffeine. Stay natural, IMHO.

I thought I would put my 2 cents into this since I use the 5 hr energy shots before I workout at 0430 in the morning. It does help me with out the gitters expecialy when I run 10+ miles.

I can say there is a difference between 5 hr energy shot and energy drinks so you need to read the label to understand what you putting in your body. For example, 5 hr shot as stated have B vit which help produce energy from: the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose (this provides energy for the body),
the breakdown of fats and proteins (which aids the normal functioning of the nervous system) plus they help muscle tone in the stomach and intestinal tract. Also, it does have caffiene which studies have shown to help with athletic performance. Large amounts cause side effects like cramps due to dehydration.

Where as energy drinks are full of sugar which means a fast boost then a fast drop which is bad. Plus they normally have two or three times the amount of caffiene.

So if you do try it just remember you won't be able to use it at INDOC so don't let it become a crutch as stated above.

So far, in my pipeline experience I havent seen anyone use this drink. I don't know how healthy/unhealthy the drink is, but I do know you can go without it.

It works for me, gives me a ***** load of energy. Of course everyone's body is different so just buy, try it and decide for yourself!

Note: I never, ever drink caffeine so when I do take one of these 5 hour shots, which is maybe once a month if that, my body responds dramatically. If you are accustomed to caffeine then it may not work as well for you.

I did the whole SP250...and yeah it causes insomnia. I also believe it is a training crutch. I found it to be a false motivation and stimulant of "putting out".

Too many views for and against "energy" supplements. If I am going to be training myself to undergo the pipeline, why take something I can't have or use then?

Just setting yourself up to depend on something you wont be allowed to have.

The other night at work, a retired PJ happened to overhear a friend and I talking about ST, and he mentioned when 330am came around he was up, eating an orange on the way to PT with his team...and that orange was all he needed.

Funny how our diet has changed?

I drink water, I don't do soda, coffee, or theses energy crutches. Your teeth will thank you later.

I took a 5 hour energy shot on while pulling an all-nighter about 4 months ago. Holy Jesus, that crap should be illegal! I had the shakes, couldn't concentrate on anything for more than about 2 seconds, and caught myself zoning out more than a couple of times. I don't use any supplements or anything and very rarely have anything caffeinated and I wouldn't take another one of those if my life depended on it. I swear I though my heart was going to beat out of my chest...

Agreed. I can count on one hand the sodas I've drank in the last two years.

I like the 5 hour energy shots, I'll drink one right when i wake up when I'm working in Alaska on the crab boats. Since i'm only running on a few hours of sleep a night they wake me right up. But i never have really got any effect out of them when i take them after i have been up for several hours.
