Since all runners are not created equal, (haha), just wondering about these "Long Slow Distance" Runs. How far in your eyes is "long" and how "slow, is slow? just so I can prepare, and please refrain from slapping me, throughout the pipeline and maybe indoc, I saw a thread that states " its not always about the time in which you finish, JUST FINISH." <-- not exact quote, and I will not train with less intensity but is that true sometimes, all the time, never? THANK YOU!

Junt,

I am one of the slowest guys on the team. I've been able to run just under 20 minutes in the 3 mile. If you can do that you should be fine. As for 's depends on the school/instructor staff. Usually 7:30 pace for 5 miles. Staying with the formation is the important part. Sound off as well. Or your pace will pick up to a 6:30. Thats when the training gets fun.
Your right, heart is everything, but believe me when I say preparation huge. Train hard, have fun, and you'll be fine.

BFloyd, thanks a lot! I am running my 3 miler in just over 20 mins, and when I first started traing about 5 months ago although I have always been athletic I could not run half of a mile in a decent pace, so I have been digging deep for what I have gained so far, so you are right, in my world ...HEART IS EVERYTHING, and one more thing if I can pick your brain...is the farthest you run for time in the schools 6 miles?( think that is what I saw somewhere) and the long slow distances???? how far? 8mi, 10 mi? and does slow mean just a jog? or anything faster than a walk?

Junt,

I'm not sure what program you are going to try out for. PJ, CCT, SOWT? I am in the CCT pipeline. For us, 3 miles has been the longest timed running event. However, we often do run longer. Also, things are always changing. Remeber you are not only evaluated in timed events, but in everyday training. As important as having heart is, if you can't pass the prescribed time, then that's it.

Here's the key in my mind to success in the pipeline. Which, I think is what you are really asking here. Come as prepared as possible. I mean that. Come ready and willing to learn. Come ready and willing to get smoked. Be able to laugh with your teammates when the pain is high. Be a team player. Give your best, even if your best at that moment might be ugly, give it anyway. Never quit. After that, what more can you do?

BFloyd sorry I should have specified.. I also am going for CCT. I will be taking your advice and thank you for your insight and congratulations on your achievements so far ... How did you adapt to the swims and ruck walks? did you train for them or just adapt? and something else, should I buy new shoes before basic? or does everyone get issued the same stuff? and same for pipeline? thanks again

Careful junt...you're turning into one of those "have to know it all" type of individuals...

Smacked down to reality. YEEESSS!!! I LOVE YOU TE!!! I knew I thought I was pushing it,,Glad you set me straight. It will not happen again, I will just train hard as I have been because I know everything I "need" to know..all these other questions are making me seem like a damn sissy!
