Yesterday I ran the 7.5 mile perimeter road in 59.21 I didnt stop the whole way and it has hills and stuff in it too. the altitude up here is 5900 ft and I didnt know how much this training would help me when i get back to sea level. well i did a 8.5 mile 45 lb ruck today in under 2 hrs. deploying is awesome for training! when you guys ruck do you wear your running shoes or boots?? i gotta wait a couple days for a blister to go away before i get back to it

You should do your rucking in boots, so you can break them in. Where in Afghanistan are you?

A suggestion - if you carry 45 pounds or more on uneven surfaces, you'll be better off wearing boots. The weight on your back combined with uneven ground can lead to ankle injuries. I regularly ruck 9 miles with a 55 - 60 pound ruck (with a 4,000 foot elevation gain) in 2:40, wearing boots. Moving at that pace I'm not always able to make good foot placements, and more than once I think my boots have saved my ankles. Beyond that, if you are ever operational, you'll definitely be wearing boots when you are humping your ruck; might as well get used to it now.

I am at camp eggers which is in kabul. i came down to bagram for a few days before i head back up there. I knew about the perimeter road here at bagram and took the opportunity and brought my ruck so i can enjoy the desert sun on my runs/rucks. all we have are treadmills at eggers so im lovin the outdoors here.
