First, I am taking the past on this Tuesday and yes i will pass it and be on my way to boot camp around july 30 for the September 16 orientation date. However, although i smoke the running and swimming, I am just going to make the calistenics. After I'm in, I will only have a month to train. I also read on this site that you lose fitness during basic. I would hate to have to get reclassified the first day of orientation for failing the PAST. Does anyone know if there is a way to do extra PT at BMT, or is this unrealistic.
Also, I know you can't have a POV at orientation, but can you have one during the rest of the Pipeline?

This topic comes up often. It's been a while since I was in basic, but I found time every day for cals. No one was allowed to swim when I went through, extra running may have been arranged (don't remember), but every night after lights out I'd do cals (pushups & situps). I lost quite a bit of muscular strength while in basic, but not much conditioning. I shaved a minute off of my 2 mile time while at basic. Something I just remembered though; they assigned running groups based on performance (don't know if they still do), don't have a slow run and get stuck w/ a slow group. My running group only had 3 or 4 guys and every time we ran, we'd get back so early they sent us out again, so we'd end up running 4 miles and still make it in before some of the fatbodies and women. Basic has changed a lot since I went through and it might not work that way now. RD
