I've always wanted CCT. I've been in for 6 years and made the PAST in basic on the old standards. I declined because of my wife. We're splitting and I want to persue what I started. I'm on a controlled tour and want out yesterday. Hicks tells me I need my commanders signature to get out. Does anyone have any additional info? Any present or retired CMSgTs out there who want to help me out feel free. . . . . post on the board or e-mail me at richard.roberts@rs.af.mil

I just returned from a six month deployment, without a significant other. STS is a difficult enough calling in life, without the added pressures of loved ones. If you allowed your present spouse to affect your decision-making process, what has or will change?

Our TDY rates are NOT going to drop, they've increased as a result of Sep 11th, most definitely something to consider...

Just my nickels' worth of thoughts.

No offense taken, let me explain my circumstances at that time in my life. I was young and dumb and that's all there is too it. I don't plan on getting hitched again. It took a long time to come to this point in my life. The TDY commitment, not a problem, I was TDY @ half the year myself. If I were in your shoes I would try and discourage others also, a demanding job like yours, I'm sure you wouldn't want some one that wasn't focused. I will proceed with this, either now or in two years. I just want to know if there is an exception to policy or something out there to go now.

Hey man, just to give you a little piece of my experience. I am in a controlled tour now. I tried and tried man to get an exception to policy or a waiver. Dude, my functional manager had finally planned on letting me retrain, but my Chief and then my commander said they could not support my retraining. It all was a no-go after that. The earliest, as far as I know, that you can apply for retraining is around your 3 year mark. There are probably ways around it, but I could not find any. Email Timothy Brown (I think thats his name), on the CCT website, and he might give you some good info. Good luck bro. Later....

TSgt Hicks is quite knowledgeable, as well as CMSgt Brown (on my contact page), the CCT FAM for AETC. Bottom line is you blew it once, now you're paying for it...you may just have to suck it up and crosstrain when the AFIs say you can.

If your commander won't give you his signature (have you tried?), then you're pretty much stuck.
