My retraining was just approved and it has a class start date of 07 OCT 2008 and a grad date of 21 OCT 2008??? I am really confused. Is that fiscal year 2008? If not, does anyone know why I have to wait almost a year and a half before I start class?

Thank you, Kyle

I would say that will be fiscal year 2008. Also just look at the main page and you will see the dates for the next courses. I am retraining also and just waiting on my ETP to be signed off on. It just gives you a little more time to train and not to mention will not be as hot.

That is FY 2009...the class date is 7 Oct 2008...that is an actual date.

Not sure exactly why it's that long but I suspect the orientation course is booked until then.

You may want to double check that with CMST(ret)Norrad as my date was for 20 Aug 2007 and mine was approved less then 2 weeks ago

I am really confused. I submitted my package almost one year ago. I am currently in South Korea on a one year unaccompanied tour. My follow-on is Offut AFB, NE and that is where I relocated my dependents when I left Turkey before Korea. At the same time my retraining was approved my follow-on assignment to Offutt was cancelled. My DEROS to leave Korea is still Sep 2007. I just can't believe it takes 2 1/2 years from when I submitted my package to when I will actually start school. My class start date is even after my enlistment ends. I am even more confused because I thought my physical expires in one year, so will I have to go get that done again? I don't even know of the procedures in-place when you have a class date that far out. Not to mention if my follow-on was cancelled then what do my dependents do? Why won't I still go to Offut?

Thanks, Kyle

This looks like a good reason to call CMSgt Humphrey at AETC (contacts page). Your initial physical is good for 2 years so it won't have to be reaccomplished...it could simply be a typo...

Yes sometimes people make mistakes, and you have to take the iniative to make to confirm things. You know how you recivie you email once you are approved for retraining from AFPC, well 2days ago I looked at it and it said my status was still "waiting" yet 2weeks ago I looked at my VMPF and it showed me as having a class date. I sent them an e-mail just to confirm and sure enough they updated it. I'm sure they are pretty busy there handling the entire AF's retraining program so I can see how they may have made that mistake.

+1 on TE advice

if you don't care of yourself, don't expect anyone else too wink

The AFPC Mystuff site that you go and look at is just for the AF Contact Center....the VMPF is where everything gets loaded into MiLPDS is viewed. two different systems, go off of what VMPF says...could very well be a mistake

Thanks everyone for the advice. I actually did contact Chief Humphrey. I am still waiting a reply. I also did confirm with AFPC Retraining that I was scheduled for a class date of 07 OCT 2008. I also confirmed with AFPC Assignments that my follow-on assignment from Korea was cancelled. They reloaded my assignment last Friday. I was told by AFPC Retraining that there was a note in my file that stated "Class date cancelled due to not aligning with DEROS". So I am taking that as good news and I am just in a holding pattern. I am certain Chief Humphrey is taking care of this and I would expect a class date sometime within the next 3-5 months. Thanks again, Kyle

I have some bad news and I am looking for any help I can get. I applied for retraining into CCT back in Dec 2006. AFPC just cancelled my retraining request because there are no class dates (according to AFPC) that align with my DEROS from Korea.

I leave Korea in September of this year (two months away). I can't understand how the Air Force is cancelling my retraining package when I know the Air Force needs CCT. I don't understand how there are no class dates in FY 2008 for CCT. Since I leave here in September I would think I could go to any class in FY 2008. I will be going to my follow-on at Offutt AFB, NE.

I have been moving this up my chain, but the biggest problem they are having is just getting a hold of anyone at AFPC Retraining Office. We have to call from here at about midnight and no one answers the phone. We have left messages, but no one responds. The only numbers the AF Contact Center will give us are DSN 312 665 2310. My supervisor talked to the AF Contact Center, but they just kept telling him there are no class dates that align with my DEROS.

So, right now my OIC (Major) has been trying to call the AFPC Retraining Office. He is going to try to call one more time. After that he has told me we are going to our Commander a Brigadier General for Special Operations Command. I have emailed Chief Humphrey and I don't want to bother him anymore because I know he is very busy. Also, I believe AFPC is not feeding him the right information. I have nothing in my package that would denote an unfavorable applicant. Lucky for me this week there are a couple of CCT'ers from Okinawa. I am passing on my information to them and they said they will give it to their recruitment member back in Okinawa.

I applied for retraining before my original retraining window opened since you can do that for CCT. The problem now is because AFPC has taken so long to process my application I am now outside of even my regular window. If I can't get this figured out my options are pretty much spent. I will try for STO because I have my degree, but my plan was to get enlisted CCT experience for 5 years before I tried for STO. I know this is getting pretty long and I appreciate the time that anyone takes to read it. I would appreciate any help and any advice.

Thank you, SSgt Kyle Ward

Do you mean your request for retraining was denied? Or your Application was denied? And there are no classes that line up with your DEROS. Next one would be October. You can apply when you get back from overseas too you know and just write an exception to policy letter that states pretty much everything you wrote...but more professionally...

gabe,

Thanks for the reply. I submitted my request in Dec 2006 along with my application. I have been waiting for approval since then. I recieved a class date of October 2008 and then suddenly my application for retraining was "cancelled due to no class dates aligning with my DEROS". My DEROS is 01 SEP 2007. I can apply when I get back. I would have to submit an ETP for almost every single requirement in the Retraining AFI to do it. I would also have to reaccomplish every requirement as I am sure most have expired (i.e. - physical). I will do whatever it takes, but I can't still can't understand how I have been treated by AFPC considering I am wanting to retrain into a career field the Air Force needs.

The issue is I believe there are class dates available as I stated previously. My question is - wouldn't any class date after my DEROS align? I can't believe all class dates in FY08 are filled for retrainees. Especially as early as I submitted my package (Dec 2006). I know there are people on this board who have submitted their packages after that date and have class dates.

Yeah, there are people that submitted their paperwork and have class dates, but the Air Force is looking for the cheapest way to get you where you need to go. If you went to CCOC without going to your follow on, where does your household good go, then they are going to have to PCS you again. You only have to submit one ETP for being outside of your retraining window. Don't be discouraged. Before I PCSed last year my retraining request was Denied TWICE. I had to wait to come back stateside. Your physical should still be good. IFC 3 are good for 2 years. Everything should still be good. Everyone has been ***** around by AFPC, its like its the first time anyone has every retrained. For everyone. The best thing you could do now is PCS, inprocess (key part :SIGNED INTO YOUR BASE IN MILPDS), then request then apply. Gotta play by the rules man...sorry.

Here is another question for you.

Did you apply early and your package got disapproved? If so, that counts as your CAREERS retraining opportunity. And if denied, you have to wait to retrain under NCORP

Ok, so here is where I am at now -

Chief Humphrey has helped me out tremendously. It also helps I work at Special Operations Command - Korea. I have to take the good with the bad. The good being I am now working on getting a class date in Feb., with the assistance of Chief Humphrey and AFPC. The bad is I was supposed to be in Korea for one year. I now have to extend 4 months beyond my original DEROS to take the Feb. class date. Which of course I will do, it just makes things a little more difficult for my family. They know CCT is something I have always planned on doing though and they understand it is my goal, so they understand.

Hang in there Crash, hang in there!
You are doing everything you can and doing it right. It took me two years to get a Medical Waiver and then I had so many problems with re-training, I went to the ANG. Not that I am recommending that in any way. It was a great move for me but then I didn't have a wife and kids and just wanted into CCT bad enough that I figured I could always sleep on the floor at work and eat Ramen Noodles for a couple of years if there wasn't enough work for a Part Timer. It never came to that but you get my point.
If you want it, you'll get your chance. Sounds like you want it and are doing everything it takes to get your chance. Remember what it took to get there when you're on the bottom of the pool with a PreSCUBA Instructor standing on your chest and your peripheral vision is fading out...

Thanks for the words Guard MC. I really appreciate it. I know I don't have it bad at all compared to other stories I have heard. I have a class date. I have also been lucky enough to work for a great command here in Korea. They have sent me to Army Basic Airborne and I leave in two days for Combat Diver Qualification Course. If I pass CDQC (Pre-Scuba), they will offer me a slot to the Army Combat Diver school. Here's my question concerning that - since the AF has their own Combat Diver school now, does the Army course count towards that or would I go back to the AF course once I'm in the pipeline (that is if Gen Brown doesn't get rid of it before I get there)? I don't really care either way, but I wonder if this has came up before.

Thank you, Kyle

Lucky you, working in the hospital I get the chance to go to no schools.

I believe a scuba bubble(badge) is good for all branches

Gen Brown getting rid of the AF course? Won't happen.

If you go to the Army course, you'll be covered for the Air Force.

I'm a 3C0X1 (Communications), but I've been lucky in the terms that I have been working Special Duties since I came in. I have never worked at a "regular" 3C0 job in a Comm. Squadron. Right now I work for the Army in an Airborne unit. That is why I applied for this job because I really wanted to go to Airborne. I love working with the Army. It offers a lot of opportunities and opens a lot of doors.
