Can a person with an accent have problems being CCT?
The reasond that I ask is that I'm from Puerto Rico and came to the states about 5 years ago. I can understand english perfect, and can also speak it very good, but I still have an accent and people sometimes have trouble understanding me, just sometimes. Would that be a problem in the CCT careerfiled?

There was a guy in my class who was from Puerto Rico who went CCT. Rubio, aka R+14 (the # of letters in his last name), made it to CCS at Pope, and had passed ATC school. ATC school is probably the only place controllers with accents really have to worry. If people have trouble understanding you face-to-face, it will be harder to understand you on the radio.

The only time that people have trouble understanding is if I talk a little fast, or mumble. But besides that, if I pronounce ever word and talk at normal speed, nobody has any problems understanding me

Worked with a great operator, Vic Valle, when I was at Little Rock. He was Puerto Rican and had no problems. Hell, I still laugh watching non-Texans trying to understand Houstonians! LOL

I think some folks remember one of the CCS instructors in the late 80's early 90's. I won't mention any names. He had the stongest accent I have ever heard in CCT but he was a great operator. I don't think you would have a problem, in fact being bilinguel will be a great asset to you. Good Luck.
