The Air Force now has rules on tatoos...it is not AFSC (PJ/CCT, etc.) specific...I don't know the specifics/restrictions...

someone recently poseted a link to tha AF manual that covers dress and appearance. I think it said no excessive tattoos defining excessive as more than 1/4 of exposed body part. I'll find the link when I get home and post it for you to look for yourself

The JAG weighs in:

There are two types of impermissible tattoos in the USAF: unauthorized tattoos and inappropriate tattoos. An unauthorized tattoo is a Duh – you look at the tattoo and say, ‘Duh, should he have that tattoo’? Unauthorized tattoos are prohibited because of what is depicted on the tattoo (No touchy-feely responses from any card-carrying pinko-commie, First Amendment cherishing, ACLU wanna-be’s). These include tattoos, of any shape or size, that are discriminatory, offensive, or demeaning (e.g., swastikas, the letters KKK, a couple in flagrante delicto). You get it removed at your own expense or you don’t ‘cross into the blue’ (anyone else not real crazy about our new mantra?). Inappropriate tattoos cover more than ¼ of an exposed body part visible while in duty uniform OR any tattoo above the collarbone. The commander has discretion in determining what is within reg’s (yes…and I’ve gotten into the philosophic arguments over whether the bracelet tattoos that encircle the wrist are covering 100% of a body part (ala the wrist) or 1/10 of a body part (ala the arm). These are ‘hunh’ events – if you go out with the fella’s and, after slamming your 18th Budweiser (because Budweiser is the only beer any self-respecting CCT or PJ would ever even think of drinking) you’re debating over the size of the tattoo to get and you go ‘hunh’? – there’s a pretty good chance you’ll violate the reg. Regardless, ANY size tattoo above the collarbone (the little teardrop behind the ear or butterfly on the nape of the neck) are inappropriate. These latter type of tattoos can be removed with medical group assistance, if available.

Everybody else gets to write about jumping out of airplanes and shooting people and this is what I do for a living. I hate being a friggin’ JAG.

Please keep answers short and to the point, with minimum embellishment in all but the buffoonery forum (and only if required there).
