Do combat controllers normally get to go to language school considering the type of work they did in afghanistan with the northern alliance. I saw the pics of the CCT guys on horseback. Pretty impressive <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Correction.
STS, has been actively sending both PJ/CCT operators to language courses (6 months) for the past 2 years.
It started out small, but has turned out to be very successful. Lack of adequate Language training has been one the most common after action items in STS training and real world op's.

Thats good Shack, but the question was "normally"...I would say that it is not normal, yes, it happens, and should happen, but the vast majority of PJ/CCT do not attend language school.

It seems like a smart thing to do being that it seems likely that you guys have to communicate with foreign troops. I bet it'll take a lot longer to have a middle man in there to translate.

Jon - Yes, there have been quite a few CWT personnel who have attended language training so far, and there may be more opportunities in the future. The requirements of the new CWT pipeline will most likely spell it all out. The personnel directly assigned to the SF Groups would be most likely to go. It's all written in Jell-O at this point, as I understand it...

This post caught my eye instantly as I am joining the Air Force to be a PJ, however if that doesn't work out my second choice was to be a linguist. I had not realised there was any posibility of merging the two fields of interest.

How do I go about getting into language school after I finish the PJ training? Is there a certain amount of time I have to wait and if so how long?

Would I have the option of picking the language I wanted to study or would I be assigned to learn a certain language based on what is needed?

If the former, what language options are there?

Sorry for the long post and Thankyou in advance for any helpfull replies.
