Do any of you guys do the "Ranger Rolls" on your floppy caps? I think I've seen more legs doing it than anyone else, and I'm wondering if it'd be copacetic to call out these dipsticks.

I really don't care if someone "Ranger Rolls" their BDU cap. My main concern is getting equipment for my NCO's and making sure my customer gets quality support.
If a "Ranger Roll" bothers you, then do the on the spot correction.

Well, it seems that SERE was worried about it so much that they ended up getting a beret anyways. SO I would not worry about it. I think fire fighters want one too now, see new air force times. Yay.

We should all get berets then.

Then we can all feel special...

Firefighters DON'T need a beret. No one likes us as it is...

My wing commander just mandated that we are all supposed to wear BDU caps from now on and even Base Honor Guard cant even wear our base ball caps. I hated my squadron cap anywayz. Im gona flip if they start making us box them.

BTW, one of the NCOs in my shop saw that I ranger roll my cap and said to fix it. (of course, I did.) Is there any reg allowing this? I mean, if drenching it in hairspray/stayflow is allowed then why not that?

I know how to solve it - let the entire AF get berets and make no one special! Then we can all get along. I know in the past when they gave EVERYONE a functional badge they wanted to change the EOD one to look like the rest of the blue. Forget about 50 years of tradition, a rare multi-service badge, and the United States standard for EOD/Bomb Squad badges! We don't want anyone feeling bad about their slice of the pie. But hell, it is in the regulations that the BASIC airborne badge due to all it's glory is to be worn above any other non-aviaiton badge. Don't they offer Airborne as an Army incentive anyway? Hoo-ya to all the 5 jump chumps who get offended by this one, your right, I'm wrong - you are special.

I think ranger rolling your cap if you aren't a ranger is like wearing a beret if you aren't supposed to. Though look was happened in the army when everyone started wearing the black beret, SF got pissed and got the tanned beret, which I think is cooler anyway since the SAS wears tan.

Baseball caps don't bother me, they just seem to be unnecessary and a waste of funds. If they really wanted to raise unit moral they should make unit t-shirts that I can wear instead of my BDU blouse. It's 110 in the shade here at Davis-Monthan and this blouse is like an oven. We should be allowed to wear our DCU's to work, we are in a desert environment afterall, and they are so much thinner than the BDU's.

And the new Space Badge is worn above jump wings. No big deal.

FWIW- The new uniform AFI is posted on the electronic pubs page.

Gentlemen,

With all due respect and good-will; it's not what's on the head that counts - it's what's in it. Smart operators, not fashionable troops win battles.

Joe Boo is correct. (Yikes, I wish people would pay attention - SF are called Green Beanies for reason. Try Rangers re. the black/tan beret issue). The Rangers, after the squawking (I agreed with them, by the way as I was ticked when USAF took the blue beret from CCT and gave it to Security Police), went ahead and did their jobs. Rangers, CCT, ParaRescue, the professionals, always get the job done, hats rolled or unrolled.

Besides, I don't think floppy caps were what George Bush was referring to when he quoted Todd Beamer (United Airlines flight 93) and said to America, "Let's roll!"

Regards

Rangers not green berets, forget I wrote that I wasn't thinking, plus, most of my friends in the army dislike having to wear the beret anyway. In the AirForce Times several months back they had an article about what many First Shirts were saying about what could change in the AF. Apparently, alot of them wanted to not wear any cap at all, which is fine with me, walking outside and putting a black baseball cap on adds 10 degrees to my bodyheat.

Always got the job done!!! I can remember our guys providing "instruction" on the proper wear and care of the blue beret. I was in the first class to graduate with the Red Beret (we had to pay for them ourselves). At least we didn't keep getting requests for directions.

From my experience of being in the army (infantry) for the last 8 years, no one really gives a rats a** what your bdu cap looks like as long as you aren't a dirtbag.

Hey have you ever had an IBA on in Iraq in the summer LT? Just curious.

Oh, I beg to differ. When I Ranger Rolled my hat at Airborne School, my Black Hat would drop me (which I thought was all part of the game) and make me unroll the hat. I would wait until he left and reroll it. He actually held my diploma and made me come to his office to explain my actions. Once I explained the tradition of CCT and PJ Trainees rolling their hats and getting dropped at Airborne for fun, he relented. The 500 push ups he made me do didn't hurt, either. The fact that the AF had paid for the slot and that I had met all the graduation criteria didn't hurt either. Anyway, you would be surprised who cares; I was.
