Hey guys just wanted to tell every one that i ran my mile today for my Weight Lifting class at school. Just wanted a lil feed back on wat you all think of my time. I m 6'3" 190lbs and i ran the mile in 5mins 52secs my fastest mile ever last year it was 6mins 38secs. Mondays Wensdays and Friday are the days that i do 16 laps around the gym which is a mile and those are also the days i lift. should i run those laps every day or keep the schedule i have. This class is over next friday so i am open for change when that happens. Thanks again to you all

I would definitely start running more than a mile.... I don't think there was one time in Indoc where we ran just ONE mile. Endurance is definitely key and a sub 6 min mile is good, but even in Basic Training the Standards are all set for Mile and a Half Times... So i would start timing yourself on those, so you can get a pretty good idea of your 3 and 6 mile times... Also it never hurts to switch it up because in Indoc you will do lots of different types of running, from Fartleks to Intervals to Long Slow distance, Keep it interesting and mix things up a bit!

Sunday, Your mile time is not bad but you definately need to train for a longer distance. One mile by itself indicates general ability but without endurance to back it up, you will never make it. You will have to run 6 miles, do cals and do a 4000m swim on your evals before all is said and done so start thinking along those lines. See the workout guides on the home page for details. They are on the left side under information. 5:52 does indicate good running ability, especially if you haven't had a dedicated running program (not exactly college schollarship stuff but pretty good for an untrained athelete). Take heart that you have some talent, show some heart by training up for your pipeline. Good luck.

I hear ya Guard MC. I m a High School Junior right now. As for my athletic past I used to be a wrestler. I wrestled 6th grade up until last year my 10th grade year. Our wrestling room was always a minimum of 80 degrees and add the body heat from the 40 some wrestlers running by my side and the long sleve under armour that i wore. i m very capable of pushing myself to the limits. After wrestling was over i got lazy....BIG MISTAKE.....over the summer i didn't train or run so yeah 5:52 is a personal best but i know that i can improve it. Just need to work at it and get better at organizing my Workouts . How do you know when you have broken into your running and are ready for more distance? Thanks again to you all.
