Maybe guard MC could help me. What's the process an ad/af person would have to follow to crosstrain to cct and palace chase? It's just an option (I am crosstraining, but the guard/res is up in the air) I'm weighing out since I would (if guard) live not far from KY. How much time is spent activation.

Palace Chase requires that you have done half of your initial enlistment (if memory serves, but contact a Guard or Reserve Liaison for confirmation) and that the career field you are leaving is manned at 90%. It also requires that the unit you wish to go to has a slot for you and wants to accept you. We have CCTs and PJs in our unit who will talk to you about all this.
Activation may not be the word you are looking for. Activation is Federal duty not to exceed a period of 2 years per Individual. This 2 years can be spread out so that you do 120 days of Federalization (generally deployed), go back home, do another period, say 90 days Federalized, then go back home. Technically, the USAF can keep yanking your chain for years, a few days at a time. We'll see if they do that. In the past, they simply Activated a person for 2 years straight.

You may mean "How often are you deployed?" Well, right now you can volunteer as much or as little as you want as a Traditional Guardsman. If that changes, we will let our personnel and applicants know.
You may also mean "How often do you train?" A lot. At least 45 days in addition to the 1 week end a month and 2 weeks a year.

If interested in KYANG call 1 800 892-6722. Base Recruiters will give you Guard Specific details and put you in touch with an Operator to explain the unit and career field.

If still not satisfied, PM me.

Sorry to thread hijack but it would probably serve more useful if someone searches for information on this subject.

-I will be stuck oconus for the next 2 years for the rest of my 4-year enlistment (4years+6month extension for long tour). From reading over the forums I have gotten the impression that you cannot cross train from an oconus assignment and that it is a pain to cross train as a 2nd term enlistee. So what I have somewhat planned to do is try to palace chase after I make e-4 (6 months into my long tour) and then try to cross train to pj after going guard or reserve. Would something like this be hard to pull off when I have 1.5 years left on my enlistment and work ammo or are there any better options? Just wanted to ask around on the forums because you guys seem pretty knowledgeable on the subject. Thanks
