This picture has many unique questions that can be asked, who knows the answer?

What PJ unit is this and what was its purpose?

Who in this picture eventually became a Pararescue Chief (E-9)?

Who in this picture became commandant of the Pararescue School?

Who in this picture was or became an Air Force Outstanding Airmen of the year?

Who in this picture were members of the original Air Force’s High Altitude Rescue and Recovery Climbing Team (these are the individuals who climbed and reached the summit of Mt. McKinley several years before this picture was taken)?

Who in this picture were members of an AF rescue climbing team and successfully reach the top of Mt. McKinley several years after this picture was taken?

Special Mission Operational Test and Evaluation Center (SMOTEC), test and evaluation?

Who in this picture eventually became a Pararescue Chief (E-9)?

CMSgt (Ret.) Bob Holler

Who in this picture became commandant of the Pararescue School?

No Idea

Who in this picture was or became an Air Force Outstanding Airmen of the year?

It wasn't Dale Lackey! Bob LaPointe?

Who in this picture were members of the original Air Force’s High Altitude Rescue and Recovery Climbing Team (these are the individuals who climbed and reached the summit of Mt. McKinley several years before this picture was taken)?

Loomis, LaPointe, ??

Who in this picture were members of an AF rescue climbing team and successfully reach the top of Mt. McKinley several years after this picture was taken?

Loomis, LaPointe, ??

Not sure if that is Loomis or not...

[]Got it,

Hickson was the Commandant. [/]And he also became a Pararescue Chief. However, most of the answers are incomplete or not provided.

[]What PJ unit is this and what was its purpose?
Special Mission Operational Test and Evaluation Center (SMOTEC), test and evaluation?[/] No--it was 23rd AF ????

I'll even add two bonus questions (There are several others I could ask).
Which individual in this picture participated in the CSAR recovery of the crew of the SS Mayaquez, 13-15 May 1975 and was awarded a DFC for his accomplishments and acheivements of this last official combat action in Southeast Asia?

Which individual this picture also had his picture appear on the cover of Time Magazine?

[]Yukon - a little help with the Times magazine cover... What year was he on the cover? [/]The year was 1972. And I just looked at all the coversTime Magazine had for the year 1972 and I did not find the picture I was looking for. Perhaps it was a picture used for one of the articles, or perhaps I was mistaken about the magazine. I'm checking now, the picture was taken during the extraction of 132 besieged Marines from The Citadel, Quang Tri RVN on 1 May 1972. The individual being discussed was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions in the operation.

Sergeant William J. Thompson is the only PJ with a DFC listed for the extraction of Marines from The Citadel on Bob LaPointe's www.pjsinnam.com website.

You didn't list him as being in the picture either..

Miracle Mission-- Evacuation of Quang Tri’s Citadel

The PJs crewing the four HH-53s of the 37th ARRS doing this extraction are Bob LaPointe, Michael Aillett, Charles McQuoid, Daniel Manion, Cole Panning, Richard Steed, and William Thompson.

The DFC Citation

22nd Birthday in Vietnam

Well I just found an omission on Bob's website. He has 2 DFCs and he didn't list his medals on the Distinguished Flying Cross Recipients list he put up on his website.

His decorations include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, five Meritorious Service Medals, twelve Air Medals, Aerial Achievement Medal, ... Reference: Bio of Robert L. LaPointe, Author of the...of pjsinnam.com

GAAH!! It was right under my nose the whole time!! The guy is so modest, he didn't even either of his DFCs on the list.

The Miracle Mission is a very good (and damn funny in some parts) read.

Looks like the FF MTT that was at Eglin AFB in the summer of '85.
