Hello my name is Andres; and looking forward to AFBMT, leaving Sept. 13, 05. Also, new to the forum. Most of the questions I've had regarding Pararescue have been answered thanks to the forum. There's only one at the moment that I can't find the answer to....I have a small family, wife, 6 year old and a new born. I understand that there are times in the training proccess that having the family near you is not recommended. I've read that the trainig is about 12-15 months, so during that time how often are you able to see your family?

Thanks.

Andres,

The PJ Pipeline has changed so that now, once you graduate Indoc (10 weeks) and AF CDQC (Air Force Combat Dive Qualification Course - 4 weeks) you will PCS (Permanent Change of Station) to Kirtland AFB, NM. Your family will be able to go with you there, and you'll see them between Pipeline schools...in other words...once you get to Kirtland, you'll be TDY 2-6 weeks at a time for courses, but return to Kirtland between schools...then stay at Kirtland for the PJ school...so, you will be away from the family for a bit off and on, but not bad.

You'll probably see your family more during training than when you get into the careerfield and start deploying.

Does this apply to STO's as well? However, you would be based at Hurlburt instead of Kirtland, correct? Lastly, what do you do between schools? Thanks in advance for your help.

That info is on the site...you'll PCS to Hurlburt as a STO and go through AST...between pipeline schools you'll RTB to Hurlburt and do whatever you're told...

Good morning. TE, as you read I told you I have a small family. Now, I never really knew anything about PJ/CCT or anything like that in the AF until I wathced "Rescue Warriors" and read your site. My recruiter just gave me microscopic overview of these careerfields. And he said, "these careerfileds have nothing to do with your enlistment since you have a family". He told me Firefighter or Sec. Forces would be more adequate to my lifestyle. TE, I'm only 24 and I have a beautiful supportive wife, also I leave for Basic, Sept. 13, 05. Those AF jobs don't appeal to me. Why would my recruiter say that? I'm also in great physical shape and being away from my family at times is something my spouse and I understand. Any advice from you would help me a lot, since my family are also the ones I have to think about before making any career move.
Thanks.

Security Forces is one of the highest OPSTEMPO (being gone) careerfields in the Air Force...not sure why your recruiter would say that, unless he is kind of guessing.

If your wife is supportive and independant, you'll have no problems.

Well, I just spoke to him on the phone. He told me that he didn't push me into it so much since I had a family and the training is so long (I think it's worth it). Also most of his applicants with families were not interested in those type of jobs. Most importantly he said, "You NEVER asked me anything about it, Andres". So he's going to speak to his boss and set me up for the PAST test. It was a little bit of my fault for not saying anything. So I hope I do well.

AG403,
TE is right, SF (Security Forces) is an extremely high tempo career field. I myself am a cop and on my 3rd deployment in a row. Now I volunteered for all three but the fact one man was able to volunteer for all three and the Air Force agreed just goes to show you how short manned we are. But I think you need to head into the PJ/CCT world, you would not be satisfied in the SF world, I only assume by the attitude you project which is a positive one. You are lucky in you have a supportive family, I say go for it. I don't have much support and it's hard to do the "high speed" stuff sometimes when you're out on your own. Take care and God bless.

Also remember that PJs now PCS to Kirtland after Indoc and SCUBA school...which means your family will be there also...you'll be TDY to various schools at various times, and in the field, etc., but it's no longer the year or so away from the family as it once was...

Do CRO's also receive PCS orders at the same time as the PJ's?

AG403,
I'm a spouse of a cone currently in the Pipeline. It was a little diffrent for us because my DH is a retrainee. He attended some other schools while we stayed at our home station. Once he was going to start EMT-B we PCSed to Kirtland. You will be studying a lot but you will get to see your family. The Housing on base is very nice and there is also new housing available. We opted not to live on base due to not wanting our son in the High School that coincides with the base. The elementary school is located within the base perimeter. Once you get thru INDOC and Scuba email me I will be more then happy to help your wife out. That offer really goes out to anyone's Wife/Significant Other.

Thanks for the response, I decided to go CCT. I ship out April 25th, I don't think I'll be in New Mexico. But thank you for your response it feels good to know there's someone that understands. Thank you.
