Does anybody know of a good shoe store in the Eglin area? I'm looking for a place like Fleet Feet that watces you run and helps get the right shoe. Thanks for any help!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/notworthy.gif" alt="" />

LOL I've actually been in there. I just didn't know they did that. They were pretty busy and I didn't get to talk to them. And yeah, I could've spent half my annual salary there in about 5 minutes! Thanks!!

Running Wild in Pensacola is pretty good as well. They check your gait out and all that when you go in to buy shoes.

How about in Okinawa? Anything similar to that here?

They have an 18th SVS sports supply store between the tennis courts located by the Reisner Gym on Kadena AB. It's been a little over two years since I left but it should still be there. Other than that its the base AFFES BX. I don't know if either one offers the service you're lookin' for but It won't hurt to ask. As far as Marine side I think it's the same AFFES PX and SVS (MCCS).

Some advice for OCONUS types: Runners World does an annual review of shoes. So do other mags. All you have to do is look at the wear pattern on your old shoes to figure out if you are nuetral (rear and slightly outside of heel), pronating (inside of heels), or supernating (outside of heels). Next, look at how wide your foot is. The BX/MCX has a shoe dept with those funny shoe size measurers so use them to get your width and size. Then get your body weight. Anybody over 185 ought to consider extra support type shoes. Finally, look at your mileage and running surfaces. Take all that info and read the Runners World or other magazine to figure out what shoe you need. If you have a shoe that has always worked in the past, buy it or it's replacement, or the closest thing to it. If the BX/MCX doesn't have it, try "Road Runners Sports". They have great deals on shoes, expecially close outs of perfectly good models that are simply being updated. An example would be when the Asics 2020 came out, they sold the Asics 2010 for $59.00, about $10.00 less than the regular price and $20.00 less than you find at the mall. Road Runner Sports and other running gear catalogs sell all the running gear you need and have nice little discriptions to help you decide. They have it all from shoes and socks, to shorts, sweats, and cold weather gear. Not always the cheapest but they will have what you need. I used to just wait for the end of the year and then buy all I could afford. If the base library doesn't have the Magazine or can't order it, go online. MC
