When running long distances or rucking several miles, my feet tend to get blisters. I wear shoes that fit the terrain ie running shoes for pavement or an all terrain type running shoe for trails. Now, this isnt that big of a deal, blisters suck but can be overcome. My question is are blisters normal and I need to get used to it or am I just not using the best shoe for the job so to speak. Do i need to dig deeper into my pocket and get better shoes?
Thanks, Chris

BTW- The blisters appear on the outside of the heal and the soles of my feet. (I dont know if that helps)

My personal opinion is that if you're not wearing the cheapest shoes you can buy, then blisters are normal if you go for a much longer than usual run. What you can do is where ever you live there is probably a shoe store that can help you choose a good set of shoes for you. If they use words like pronate, they probably know what they are talking about. You can call ahead and ask if someone is working there who can help you. I did this ten years ago and I've been running on the same set of shoes ever since.

Blisters are also normal for ruck marches. There's different things you can do like put on moleskin or put on an extra sock. Depending on how your boots fit, putting an extra sock on may make the boot too tight and cause blisters.

I don't know how bad your blisters are or how long you've been running / rucking, but the more you do it the less severe they will be. I really think that if you're not using the cheapest shoes you can buy, than you do not need to dig deeper to you're pocket.

Moleskins helped me out alot, both with running and day to day boot wear. I know when I first started backpacking, I'd get nasty blisters, but proper boots that fit with my foot and body type and moleskins saved me alot of unecessary pain till calouses developed. Hope this helps, I'm not an expert on this.

Thanks for the help. I think I will talk to the guys at the shoe store. My feet naturally turn inward, but I have spent a lot of time correcting the problem. I just moved to Fairbanks so I need to find a good shoe place. Thanks to both you guys for the tips. I also looked into moleskin and that looks very promising.

Thanks,
Chris
