I was leading a squadron workout (called warfit, or warFAT as it should be) and after a five minute jog/warmup, then a calisthenics session (with lunges and jumps, etc) I had the people do some shuttle run/sprints. Afterwards we stretched. The next day I was getting all kinds of flak from people saying that I was risking injury to the people (fatties) and that we should have stretched BEFORE the sprints. I've never seen a sprinter hold long stretches before a race, but just wanted the forum's input on this...
Even if we warm up a lot, before I make people do shuttle runs should I have them stretch out before? Thanks!

Coney, from what i have read and heard you are correct. Doing stretches before Workouts was the old school method or training. I think the new way of thinking has proven that an adequate warm up of the muscles that you are going to work out is the right way to do things. Personally i have found that stretching before sprints decreases my performance. Just my .02 cents

If you compete in the sprints, you need to stretch midly. Otherwise, do not stretch before exercising
