So I was talking to my neighbor who is a pilates instructor and I asked her what she thinks I should do to increase my running speed (so i can get 100% on the new AF fitness test). She said that the people she trains with are running.....get this....7 miles in 15 minutes on the treadmill! I guess they set the speed on 22 or something. I haven't tried this, but I would imagine it takes some coordination to not fall on your face, but she said it builds the sprinting muscles, but helps for long distances also. Anyone heard of this or have any input?

Treadmills usually won't go more than 12 mph...so 22 mph on the treadmill is impossible.

You either heard wrong or it is total b.s. The world record for the 10K (only 6.2 miles) is 27:18. No chance anyone is running 7 miles in 14 minutes. Even if you ran at world record speed for the 100m (9.78 sec) you wouldn't make it.

That's not BS. There was a guy back in the '70s named Steve Austin that could do it. I think he had his own TV show.

That is total B.S. NOBODY can run 7 miles at 2:00 pace. Specially on a treadmill. The fastest runners which are the Kenya's run at around 3:45 to 4:30 minute mile; for much longer distances (10 miles and longer). Jconelly is right, the guy broke the record last year, he was from Morrocco. Steve Austin? who is that. As a runner, I heard of Steve Prefontaine and Jim Ryan

That instructor, like a ton of her personal trainer peers, doesn't know [censored] from shineola.

Now, there is such a thing as overspeed training, but not at 2:00/ miles. Back in the day, we'd run with a tow rope on the bumper of our track coaches car (no hills in Florida). I can only imagine what would happen these days if we tried that stunt.

Perhaps she is training Cheetahs...and refers to them as "people"...

Well she is zulu and has run from lions before. That's some motivation to be the fastest member in the group (or at least not the slowest). What she was saying is that on a treadmill it is not the same as running on the ground. You make quick strides on the treadmill while it is going really fast. These same people cannot run 4 minute miles on the ground, but this is how they train on the treadmill. Ill look into it.

Steve Austin would of been on a profile therefore he wouldn't of had to run <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Wouldn't Steve Austin have been medically discharged from the service with a pension?
