I was just wondering about how those of us with bad eyesight train and go on missions that require diving? Do they have inserts for your mask or do you just get a special mask. I guess I should also inquire as to if soft contacts are ok to wear during training and missions that are non water related. This of course implies you meet the min requirements or have a wavier.

You can get special dive masks with your prescription (don't know if your unit pays or you pay but they are out there). contacts are a bad idea for diving but I know guys who wear them in the field. Some think they are OK, others think they are too much work and just wear glasses. My eyes are not real good (20/50 and 20/70)and some times I wear glasses and sometimes I don't in the field. I prefer not to but as my eyes have gotten worse over the years, I have had to. Issue BC glasses are fine for Airfield Ops and regular stuff but gas mask inserts are best for the field, jumps (get modified goggles to cover them) and overland or mounted movements. I have prescription sunglasses that I paid for myself for CAS and shooting but you can get your unit to buy prescription sunglasses for you instead of the nonprescritption sunglasses/shooting glasses/eye protection they issue you. Usually it's the same eye wear just with your prescription.
Any way, there are lots of options and you just have to try them all until you hit upon the ones you like best.
