i went to start my crosstraining paperwork today and got completely blindsided, i am a 2AXXXX AFSC and i cannot crosstrain to any other AFSC but 2A and 1A AFSC's my careerfield isnt critically manned, and they made no mention of this 2 1/2 months ago when i started looking into CCT,just make sure you all are talking to the right people at your mpf,and if you are a 2nd term SSGT. in a 2A careerfield get comfortable you aint goin nowhere. If anyone has any experience with this or knows a way around this aside from losing a stripe please help.

You might want to mention that CCT is a NOTE 518 AFSC (meaning retraining is open to any AFSC)...

Boogie,
We are getting plenty of 2A's into recruiting and most of them didn't volunteer.

Its AFTMS (Now OTA) retraining note 518...

AFTMS: Air Force Training Management System...I believe this has been replaced by OTA: Oracle Training Administration...

Your MPF retraining section should be able to access the info...possibly your unit CCS via PCIII...

i got with my MPF and apparently my afsc is listed as a note 411 which overides note 518 (straight flush beats two pair). note 411 states all ncorp 2a afsc only xtrain to 1a/2a afsc. They gave me a Smsgt's number to call so im moving up in the world, still waiting to hear back.

Is there anywhere we can see strength management numbers without going to MPF?

not sure if this is what you mean by strength management numbers, these numbers are for nco's and im assuming you are a SRA (i figured that out on my own) but if you want some info that may have nothing at all to do with what you just posted go here-https://www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/enlskills/Retraining/retraining.htm (sorry, dont know how to add links)

I only know the Army terms for things, sorry, haven't been in the Air Force that long. by strength management I mean which AFSC is considered under, even, or overstrength.

Here's one for you:
https://www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/enlskills/Retraining/note518.htm

The whole thing smells like BS to me. 2AXXX is listed as a note 520 AFSC and should be able to retrain into any 518. I can't find a 411 list anywhere, and can only assume that the MPF folks either don't wish to do any actual work, or that someone high up, associated with your AFSC, gave unofficial and illegal instructions to block anyone trying to get out. I've seen it before, believe me. If anyone finds a reference to a note 411 please post it here.

yeah i printed that link out a couple days ago and they said that a note 518 only applies to milpds slot availability. note 411 is for 2a because our carreerfields have undergone some changes recently and they want to keep staff seargents in their respective carreers to keep experience, however (thanks to afrecruiter)i found a FAQ on afpc that specifically states any 2a can submit a request for exception to policy so im doing that now(the link isnt with me now but anyone needs it PM me) its no guarantee that it will go through but at least theyre letting me apply they werent even going to do that before.
