Loc: Colorado School of Mines, Gold...
I'm a AFROTC cadet at the Colorado School of Mines who desperately wants to go operations. Mines is an engineering school and I'm worried that my techinal degree will get me stuck behind desk or in a lab. What technical degrees will help me get a CCT slot?

As is stated elsewhere in the forums (search!), your degree does not matter. Download the STO application and read it. You will apply during your junior/senior year. If invited to PhaseII and selected from there you are off and running, your degree does not make a difference.
Just a word to the wise, if you do not make it out of PhaseII and have an engineering degree, you WILL be assigned as a 62E, developmental engineer (if you're aero or EE, that is). And those are tough to get released from. But if you make it as a cadet before you commission you're golden.

Just to ring in on getting released from 62E, it's not hard actually...as long as you're going for STO, CRO, pilot, or nav. If for some reason you get classified 62E (b/c you don't pass PhII say), tell your AFPC functional manager you want to cross train to STO and he/she will release you. I know b/c I've done it. I guess we should realize, although, that times do change and who know what it will be like once you're in. Best bet would be to get in while in ROTC.
