Hi, can anyone help. Occasionally when I run I get this sharp pain in my right knee. It occurs on the inside front of the knee, about level with the knee cap. Sometimes it fades before I've finished the run, other times my knee will stay painful for hours or even days afterwards. Can anyone suggest any help or even what it may be.
Cheers

SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION!!! You may have minor/major patella tendonitus. Your patella bone could be 'off track' DO NOT SUCK IT UP!

EXACTLY...I'm not a medical expert, but I had that same problem. Apparently I just had some minor tendonitus, but my insistance to run on it anyway led to a degenerative torn maniscus, and still running on it led to a lateral femoral condyle fracture. Needless to say, I am paying for it now and probably will the rest of my life. Get it checked out NOW while it's still potentially minor.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've seen my doctor. He's had a good look at it and I've had a scan, seems theres no major problem, and the pain in my knee is just a pulled ligament / muscle, but is not really much to worry about. He's advised I cut my mileage down and rest it for a bit and I should be good to go.
Cheers

Ask to be refered to a physical therapist, and go to a DEEP TISSUE massage therapist! Sounds like you are talikng to an ortho, who has very little experience with sports injuries.

Okay glad this popped up. I have a sharp intermitten pain thats very inconsistent with my running. Sometimes it will hurt immedietly upon running or won't pop up for a few miles. Sometimes not at all. Today it hurt yesterday it didn't. Mine is on the outside of my right knee, that is to say the right side of my right knee. Right below the patella in that little shallow spot. My friend who has her masters in PT says its possible that my leg just needs strengthening right there but could be a miniscus issue. Really hoping thats not the issue, but I'm getting it checked on as soon as possible. Problem is that army Docs up here really suck! Well 4 months till the O-course. This better be fixed by then

YOU CANNOT HURRY REHAB!!!! If you have an injury that requires surgery and rehab, you body has a timeline for healing. You can do very little to hurry the process. Athletes that hurry back from injuries are never the same again.

KTIT, look at my earlier post on this forum. I had that same problem, just hurt a little every once and a while, but not always. Then it started to swell and hurt more and more, etc.

Thanks man. Yea so I go to rugby practice today run all around and nothing. Really makes no sense. Oh well have an appointment with an army flight doc to see if he will refer me to an Ortho. We shall see how that goes but I gotta get this taken care of

If the army flight does not refer you to an orthopedic doctor, get a second opinion. You are allowed to have a second opinion, at the military's expense.
