After multiple visits to MPF I have finally sorted some things out. It is going to take AFPC up to 120 days to have me entered in to the system. Once I am properly in the system, and it is decided if I am a first term airmen or a career airmen, there will have to be a letter of exception to policy written to allow me to crosstrain into CCT. The NCOIC at MPF said it would help if I had someone higher up to push this along once it was sent up. With me being new to the Air Force I don't have anyone to turn to. Is there anything I can do to prove to the CCT school that I am a quality applicant in order to get some help pushing this through?

I am willing to take leave, travel to Lackland on my dime, and present my case to the school as well as take the past test while there. Also if possible I would be willing to do the indoc course off record and while on leave.

I understand your willingness to do what ever it takes to get into the career field but there is NO WAY the Instructors can let you attend a course on leave. You have to be on TDY status of some kind. You could visit the school to plead your case but I am not sure if it would do you any good. You must have a supervisor now or somebody who is overseeing your enlistment, training and assignment process. That person should be your advocate on this issue. They are the person you need to pursuade to help you. We can give you all the advice in the world and the Instructors at CCOC could possibly take up your case, but in the end, the person responsible for your enlistment, training and assignment must take action. Talk to them. MC

I believe the exception to policy is required because you SIE'd...correct SRA Bracken? That is why the exception is required.

Get the paperwork done...you can't attend on leave and shouldn't have to. Unfortunately, you quit once...it may haunt you now if the exception to policy is not approved (the policy being that if a person SIE's he is not eligible to attend again). I doubt anyone "higher up" will try to push this...

Not so, TE. The exception to policy letter is required if a First Term airman is going to retrain PRIOR to their normal CAREERS retraining window. So anyone who wants to retrain at their 24 or 36 month (4yr, 6yr enlistee respectively) and try out for PJ/CCT must have an exception to policy letter.

SrA Bracken, I just sent my exception to policy letter up to AFPC and they didn't like it because it was signed by my Commander. What AFPC wants is that YOU write the letter up and sign it; then have your commander ENDORSE it. The way the letter looks if your commander signs it, is that your commander wants you to retrain. You have to write it so that you want to retrain and have your commander back you up by endorsing it. They had an easy fix, I just had to submit (fax) a quick letter saying that yes I wanted to retrain and no one was forcing me to do it.

Whatever happened to the good old days of check boxes and fill in the blanks! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Also, I always thought that if you SIE'd, you could NEVER go back to the school, no if's and's or but's.

No, I am prior Army and have only been in the Air Force since Nov 25th 2003. The exception to policy will be to allow me to crosstrain before my window opens. That is why the exception is required. But this is also dependent on what the Air Force decides to classify me as. I have 4 1/2 years active duty time with the Army and 4 1/2 years reserve time. It is now up to AFPC to do a timeline and hand down their determination on what I am classified as.

Yes, Self Initiated Elimination (SIE) is a very PC term for quit.

SrA Bracken, try adding everything that you have to say into a single post. You can always edit the post if you forget something rather than adding another post to the pile.

Ok, I was thinking of someone else on the SIE part.

Still needing an example of a format for the letter of exception to policy. If anyone has gone through this process I would appreciate some insight. Thanks.
