Haven't seen it on the news yet but yesterday (21 August 2002) an F-15 pilot ejected out of his
ride and safely landed in the ocean and onto a raft. As soon as we got the "magic magic magic"
call everyone from the lowest ranking crew chief to the highest ranking pilot scrambled to get
ready for the rescue. There was already a bird in the air, and within 15 minutes, it was back
on our ramp. Another 20 mins of setting up, and it was back in the air. PJ's picked up the
pilot, he was unharmed, treated, and released at Camp Foster (Near Kadena AB).
On a personal note, i've been involved in rescues already, but on this particular magic call, I
dont think i ever worked so hard in my life....every single person that was involved did an
OUTSTANDING job on getting the helicopters prepped and launched into the air. (We launched a
second aircraft as well after the first one....we were acually doing maintenance on the bird
when we got the call).
Weather you choose to post it or not is at your descretion, I just thought you would like to
know that the 33rd Rescue Squadron lived upto the motto "...That Others May Live"
