Hello!

I'm not sure if I am a success story for KB's, but I have completely changed my body and life since having started lifting KB's.

I have never been good at workingout. I started back in March with an 18lb KB, I found quickly that my endurance sucked and with the 18lb it got better.

Then I advanced to the 36lb, with this one I lost about 10lbs, and my endurance got even better and I gained strength. I gained what I would call functional strength.

My fitness level as I stated above has always sucked. I could barely do 30pushes a few months ago. Now I can crank out 55. It isn't a lot, but its a big improvement. I couldn't even do 3 consecutive chin ups, now I can crank out 8.

I finally moved up to the 53lb KB, and this one has kicked my butt. At the same time though, I am stronger than ever. It has taken me a while to just get used to this one, it is heavy and the handle is very thick.

I got the 53lb back in the middle of September. I basically try and just do the omlette and cycle it with other stuff. The one big improvement I gained with this one is that attitude of sucking it up. I finally broke my record in running. I could barely run a 9:30 to 10:00 min mile, now I'm running a 7:10 mile.

Damn, I hope I'm not boring you all. I have a bit more I want to say so bear with me.

What I have found with KB's is that the strength it gives me is tremendous. The explosive drills and strength training make your body work as one. I love going into mosh pits at rock concerts and while I always hold my own, last months show I really was a force to be reckoned with.

Now my cal numbers still may suck, but I'm working on them by just doing them as often as possible. But the KB's help me maintain those mininum numbers without having to do it that often.

I have come a long ways from March. I don't think I could have done it without the KB drills and Nate and Mike Mahler and AA who have all helped me with answering questions and providing tips.

Now I just have to go take the PAST test, which is in two weeks.

I use to weigh 200lbs, now I weigh 170. I lost most of that weight in the last three months.

Sorry if I bored ya'll.

Thanks Robb!

I will definately check out the link you provided. I am also going to start a Warrior diet topic on the nutrition board. I have many questions for Ori already but I am definately open to more. If you have a question about the Warrior diet as military fitness, please write it there and I will include it.

About Success Stories. I know TE has had a great deal of success with KBs and I would like him to write an article about it when able. I am in the middle of writing an article about what they have done for me specifically and it should post in the next few weeks.

I encourage all to chime in with thier experience.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Nate

I think we've beat this thread to death and spun off about 4 different topics... lets put the "success, achievements and progress" stuff in another thread..

Thanks RHB for putting in some truthful numbers... that run improvement is great <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> and one side benefit I think you didn't state... I'm not mind reading but... I think you have a lot more confidence in your athletic ability, and know you are capable of progress...

On to a new thread...

No problem on the 200+ lbs and paralellettes. Get the high quality PVC at the 1.5-2" diamater. There are instructions on how to build your own somewhere at the main crossfit site and also at americangymnast.

Thanks to Joe-Boo, RKC, Robb Wolf and to Coach Glassman.

Robb: I am perusing the links you provided in reference to Warrior diet. My questions about the appropriateness of WD are along the same lines as RKC's inquiries, i.e., within the spartan and austere environments that are the sole province of both infantrymen and SOF.

I think we are all unanimous in our thinking that these messages have taken a higher turn, one that wil yield great meanings and values to all.

Appreciatively,

TheSaint

Gentlemen:

Here is something from Pavel Tsatsouline's "Bullet-Proof Abs", page 103: "Do not fall for 'muscle confusion' or changing your exercises every workout. Adapting to constantly changing stimuli is impossible by definition. A shotgun mix of exercises confuses the organism by constantly changing demands instead of shocking it into specific adaptation. Overhauling your workout too often is just as bad as doing the same old thing for too long. It is okay though to vary your sets, reps and intervals every session."

Here is something from Coach Greg Glassman (CrossFit) that I culled from an old "workout of the Day":"Typically the worlds best athletes are minimalists when it comes to their training. They work hard and fast with few exercises. They master the fundamentals and work with them for years. This is the secret that no one wants to hear."
Both these quotes should be studied for the lessons that they impart.
Have a great New Year, everyone!

saint...

it's apparent you've been doing some research on the crossfit ideology...what do you think...

personally, i've "borrowed" several of their exercises which i love...but, i don't believe sticking to their regimen as posted daily provides the endurance required for someone training for selection...a great augmentation tool though to say the least...

one of the Workouts of the day posted a link to http://www.powerathletesmag.com/pages/bodyblaster.htm ...anyone "bored" with eight count body builders can give the maher bodyblaster a try...also, check the archives for articles on EDT, kbells, and more...

happy new year all...peace...djh
