Has anyone noticed a huge difference in running at altitude and sea level?

I went from a place from 1000' to 4100'. I've been here one month now. I run about 1/4 mile less and 1:30 slower at this altitude. My Workouts are the same here as it was before. Also recovery time takes longer here. The other three people I'm here with have noticed they are sorer when they work out and take longer to recover. I'm hoping when I go home next week my run time will go down.

Training at altitude is great for gaining results at sea level, but it doesn't last forever. I lived in Colorado for a few years, and my mile times would drop by almost 30 sec when I'd visit sea level, but if I stayed longer than a few weeks, I didn't notice the affects too much

Yeah,

Training at altitude has basically the same effect as blood doping, or using a nitrogen tent. That's why those Kenyan marathoners kick the a**. The science guys could give you the specifics in detail.
Drink more water, especially if you are going to be having a few beers at night. The lowlanders also tend to get a more meaty hangover until you're aclimated.
You will notice a difference when you get back though, for a little while anyway.

Research suggests that training at altitude has no long term effect. Only in the extreme short term.

Well I got back to sea level. My first few runs were slower than when I left. My last run I matched my time. I didn't notice a difference after training at 4000 feet for the month. Guess I had a little too much fun and not enough training.
