Anyone got some advice? Somewhere between miles 3 and 4 my feet start to burn. It isn't too bad at first, but quickly progresses until my feet are feel like they are on fire. It goes away quickly after running. It's not a huge problem, I have had it for a long time, but if there is a simple solution, why deal with the pain? I have a great pair of running shoes, so I know they are not the problem. Anyone?

Are you tying you laces too tight? It might be your feet are swelling from the constant pounding and aren't able to expand.. I dunno.. Try doing a beach run with no footwear on and see how that is. Being at hurlburt, I know you got a beach That's just my 2cents.

I had experienced this. Turned out that it happened with several different brands of running sneakers. Finally traced the cause to too much heat transferring from the rubber used on the treads of the running through to the soles of my feet through the materials in the bottom of the shoes. The simple fix was to replace the factory insoles with a pair of sport/high performance insoles that I bought at the sporting goods store for around $9 per pair. The stock insoles just did not (in some of the pairs I had owned) insulate my feet enough against the heat buildup cause by the friction of running on the road (which is where I do most of my running).

If that doesn't work, email me and I'll ask at the New York Road Runners Club for other suggestions. It is the organization that puts on the NYC Marathon and all of the staff are serious runners who should be able to offer some advice.

Good luck.

You know, I just came back from a run and had this. I started to get a tingly feeling in my fingers and then I felt the burn in my feet. My thoughts were that I was dehydrated. Maybe this happens all the time and I just haven't noticed it until now that you brought it to my attention. If more water doesn't fix it, I'll have to try out NYC's idea and see what happens.

Well, I tried the beach run yesterday as recommended. I'm not sure what I was looking for, but it sure was fun. I think I will do beach runs from time to time to break up the monotony of the track. I also went to Foot Locker and picked up a pair of Spenco insoles. They made such a huuuuge difference. No more burning. My running shoes were by no means uncomfortable before I put the insoles in, but afterwards....wow! I feel like such a clown for not trying such a simple solution like that. Thanks for the common sense guys.

Becareful about insoles! I had a buddy go to MEPS to get his physical so he could come in guaranteed CCT and he was disqualified because the doc noticed the insoles in his shoes. He wore them when he played soccer. Now he is in the Marines and has been wishing for the last 8 years he was CCT.

I appreciate the heads up, but certainly MEPS or anyone else wont DQ someone for weating store bought insoles, they were most likely some kind of ortho-insoles of some kind. There must have been some kind of condition present. If not, your buddy got hosed. The presence of insoles alone wouldn't be enough to turn someone away.

They were store bought Dr. Scholls arch supports. He tried to explain his story about how they made his shoes comfortable and they didnt care. He had no condition, he went back to MEPS to take the same physical for the MArines and passed. They might have been being strict but they wouldnt let him in.
