I am 46 y/o and run three miles every other day. About a month ago I bought some new running shoes, New Balance 470's. Recently I am getting pain in my right heel after I run. There is no pain while I am running. Could this be the shoes, the left heel is fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Many diiferent ways of looking at it.
Did it start with the new shoes?
Have you done anything else that may have bruised your heel?
Can you walk for a good period of time and not get any pain?
You need to analyze all aspects to eliminate possible causes. Try running with your old shoes if you still have them to see if it happens. Pull out the insert on your new shoes and make sure there is nothing under there too.
If all else fails, maybe see a podiatrist and have your heel looked at.
Good luck with it.

A3M,

I am thinking it is the shoes. It seems weird that it is only the one heel. No prior injuries. And it does bother me some when I walk at work. My next try will be some inserts? I will take a look at the shoes tonight. Thanks for your input!

WAIT!!!

Before you start messing with inserts and podiatrists-- your heel pain may be caused by tight calves.

Try really stretching your calves daily by standing on the edge of a step and letting your heel drop. This will stretch the larger muscle(gastronomicus). You can stretch the smaller calf muscle (soleus) and your achilles by flexing your knee foward on the same stretch.

The fact that it is only in one foot makes it suspect; probably NOT the shoes, but you never know.

New Balance are usually intended for people with wide, flat feet. Did the store you bought the shoes from look at your feet and watch you walk?

Try stretching first and see how you feel after a couple of days. Hope this helps--

Evan

EH,

I stretch my calves out before I run but not with that particular warm up. I will give it a try tonight. Actually I did not get advise on these shoes, my bad. In the future I will definetly seek assistance. Thanks for the tip. I hope it works too!
