I know i probably did not pick the best career field given the fact that im a terrible runner, but i want a straight up answer.

At this given moment, i am not in that great of shape, but thats OK. I am planning on the 03-002 class, that still gives me a while.

My question is, in my prime in my high school track and field "career", i was a very, very fast sprinter. But i plain out stunk in any and all forms of long distance running. My fastest time after the season was 6:52 for a one mile run, it was not my 100% however, im not sure i could have kept that pace for 45 minutes.

I was wondering, for my own personal comfort, what the average indoc hopefull is posting in two-three mile track times.

And better yet, what do the operators, who have actually gone through indoc recommend my times be.

Thanks for the answers, by the way, i would grately appreciate, not only what the times HAVE to be, but what i they should be!

I want indoc to be as fun as it can, i do not want to spend my time focusing on how much it hurts. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

As a fellow wannabe who has been around here a while I can tell you that statements like that last one will get you chewed out by all the salty operators out there. The indoc is going to absolutely suck no matter how in shape you are. And, if it doesn't end up sucking, it is because you are not pushing yourself and I know of one individual around here who was cut from his class because the cadre can detect that kind of attitude and its not what they want in their future PJ's. As far as the running goes, don't be discouraged even a bit. I was in you same shoes lest summer, having been a 200m sprinter in high school and an avid heavy weight lifter since then (I'm 21). You've got to change your body over to an edurance machine. The key is to start out with long-slow running. Focus on time (45 minutes), not distance, to teach your body how to maintain a high oxidative energy level for a long period of time (you can run a search and check out my posts from last summer wherein I was figuring all this out). Don't try to run really fast in the begining. Every two or three runs (science shows it is best to run no more than every-other day) throw in an interval workout, but use longer distances than you did as a sprinter (400-1200m). These will increase your pace on the long runs over time. Do not be disturbed if you are buff and you notice your muscles shrinking a bit (and I mean just a bit). Your body needs to shed the extra "bagage" in order to be a more efficient endurance machine. The general concensous around here seems to be to go to the indoc able to meet or excede week 9 eval requirements. For running, that would be 6 miles in 45 minutes. BTW: where are you in SoCal? I spent the majority of my high school time running cross country and doing the distance meets for track. During I think the week 3 eval at Indoc.(?) you are going to have to run a 21 minute 3 mile. Being part of the "21 Club" was one of the goals every person on my cross country team wanted and pushed to make during race day, and we ran everyday (3-10 miles), 6 days a week, months before the x-country season started to try and reach that goal.

Depends on the mood you're in too, some days are harder or faster than others.

My advice is do not aim for class 03-002, that is not enough time

Going to Indoc is something you don't want to rush into. BTW - I've seen friends of mine that have never ran more than a mile in their life run a 3 mile run at a 7:40 minute pace. Distance running, it's all mental, never quit, even though your veins are pumping battery acid and you're about to throw up. - you can do that when you finish <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Its better to go in knowing that it will hurt, but also knowing that it isn't going to hurt enough to make me give up.

The PAST is fun and easy <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> I am scared to death of the 6 mile run <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="images/icons/blush.gif" /> I can do it but I avg 8min 30sec a mile on a good day guess I'll just keep running it should get easier <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

side note enjoy indoc you only get to go through it once if your lucky <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />
