I'm currently in mission qualifications to be a H-60 gunner going to Nellis. The job itself in my limited experience is evolving very rapidly. The 60 program especially is evolving due to our being added to the normal crew, rather than having a PJ do left scanner duties before the op began or during the return to base. There are three airframes we can be on: AC-130, HH-60, and HH-53. They all offer almost completely different challenges, and if you would like me to explain them in greater detail, I happily will in private messages. Your actual job consists of scanning outside the helo for obstacles, threats, etc, making radio calls at times, deploying AIE devices, watching over passengers, and most importantly, maintaining and repairing guns in-flight to put rounds on target for the guys on the ground. You are considered the weapons expert on the aircraft, just as the flight engineer is the systems expert. I do not have any cross-train POCs/numbers yet, but I promise I will get them for you. Any questions you may have, feel free to message me or reply to my post.

Roger, I just got my slot for aerial gunner with a rescue unit with the Guard. Hate to leave the cop field behind after four awesome years, but hey it's a cool job. Can't wait to go to the schools.
